Final Fantasy & Star Wars
I just watched Star Wars. Had seen it before but not for many years. Anyway, I was watching the credits, and two of the rebel guys in the starfighters were named Wedge and Biggs. These are the names of the two enemy soldiers that keep popping up throughout Final Fantasy 8.
(Did everyone else know this already and I'm just lame?) |

Ha ha, yes. Biggs and Wedge are in other FF games too, like 6 for instance. Just a little tribute to Star Wars from the people at Square I guess.

What was the first game they showed up in? I THINK it was VI, but I'm not sure.
Anyway, yeah, this has become a bit of a running gag in the series. |

They are indeed named for the Star Wars characters. And 6 was indeed their debut appearance. In it, they are a pair of Vector soldiers who accompany Terra in the attack on Narshe. In 7, they are members of AVALANCHE. In 8, they are Galbadian officers. In 9, they are members of the Tantalus troupe. And in 10, they are guards at the Luca blitzball stadium. mag |

I remember them showing up in FF7, now that you mention it.
Any other FF characters who get their names from weird places? |

Tifa Lockhart-Calista Flockhart ?
Uh, that's a bit far-fetched. But what about Cloud? Okay, I'll stop.

Cid is another running gag, so is the Masamune (Sephiroth's Sword in VII).
Cid has been in since Final Fantasy II I'm not sure about the Masamune. In Final Fantasy I the evil knight that kidnaps the princess in the bery begining of the game turns into a weird demon thing...in Final Fantasy VII Vincent's limit break lets him turn into the same creature.

The Masamune was also in chrono trigger, which is PRACTICALLY final fantasy... the Masamune sword is also a legend (from Japan, I think)

I think its a recurring theme purposely put in by Squaresoft, that many characters reappear in their games!
More research might need to be done but I am pretty sure Cid appears in every Final Fantasy game in some form. This was first brought to my attention when I played FFX after completing FFVIII. I mentioned it to my brother (a major Final Fantasy fan), and he told me that Cid was in all the games So, as far as I know Cid appears in FFVII, FFVIII, FFVIX, FFX and FFX-2 I'm not sure about the earlier games, but if there are people out there who have played them, then it would be quite interesting to find out? |
