Default WOW! Darwinia!

Title: Darwinia
genre: action/strategy
platform: PC
developer: Introversion Software (U.K.)
game site

8-) Good god, this one's just damn cute and fun! It's from the same guys who brought us Uplink.

Here's the skinny:
Quote:
"Combining fast paced action with strategic battle planning, the game features a novel and intuitive control mechanism, a graphical style ripped from 80's retro classics, and a story concerning a tribe of video game sprites trapped in a modern 3d game world."
Battlezone + Centipede + strategy war games + strategy building games + 80s retro + WTF else!

Demo, you ask? Well, I dunno, you sure you wanna download something so big? I mean, it's a whopping 11MB!!! LOL!! Definitely a kick ass 2 hours of great fun I had with it. You may love it, you may not. But you won't know til you try!

Yeah, same here. It reminded me of Syndicate in a way. It was so cool to get that mine running and everything started to move.. looks like Introversion have done it again (Uplink kicks ass ).

Wow, this one cool game, to bad though if it's that high priced...

I didn't, either, at first. But after about 20 minutes or so it all fell into place. All you're essentially doing is clearing out the island of threats, colonizing it, then harvesting its resources. At least that's what you do in the demo.

Graphics look like they were ripped directly from a 'Sentinel 2004'; it definitely deserves a try.

It's very unique. I tried the demo just now, I really like the approach. Alt-tabbing between your units and all that.

Wish there was some form of multiplayer and that they've really made stuff challenging in the full version.

I'd play this game if I didn't hate Introversion's self-centred attitude (don't ask)...

This game has gotten plenty of praise lately. Check this and also the british PC Gamer. The reviewer was raving about how original it is.

Too bad it ultimately boils down to a kinda 'alt' shoot 'em up with some strategy twists, it also gets rather monotonous after a while.

yep Darwinia kicks serious ass. one of the best most addicted games i've played in years mos def. I didn't play the demo, but i'll tell ya it does get a lot more challenging, and you can choose what you'd like upgraded, and things get bigger and better. Gotta love those little green guys. It has the type of surreal atmosphere that can make you just sit there absorbing it, especially at the end of a long level with the sweet music playing. It's also got this 'gesture system' where u press alt to bring up your HUD and a big circle, and you draw a symbol with your mouse to 'load' a squad, or engineer etc. Just awesome.

just spent a few days addicted to it. just finished it - soooo good. They reward at the end with, among other nice touches, with a Map maker - nice!

it just won the People's choice at EuroGamer - beating hl2, d3 and stuff -i like how they file it as 'post-genre' :)

if u can't tell i LOVE this game. :)
