Default memorable moments in games (!spoilersAlert!)

That sad scene where your favorite character dies, that zombie that popped out from nowhere which made you jump like hell, that hilarious moment that still makes you laugh even if its been like 10 years, that awful puzzle that still haunts you, that unbelievable goal, that wacky glitch ... you know

Here's a few memorable moments (for me):

Secret of Monkey Island - The "Oh dear, you are dead" screen followed by "Rubber tree".

Final Fantasy 7 - When Rufus (my FF7 favorite character) kills Weapon and Weapon counters, killing also Rufus. Cool moment imo. You can watch it here.

Ecstatica (Loved this game) - The many times when the werewolf beats the living crap out of me . Watch it here. (one of the memorable moments i speak of: 5:15 - 5:40)

The Journeyman Project - The bit where I stepped into the train in the mars colony only to realise it wasn't there and I'd stepped on to the tracks. Closely followed by the bit where I turned to the right just in time to see the train arriving.

System Shock 2
Realizing that you've been talking to Shodan the whole time when you finally reach your contact.

Fade to black
Being chased by the "super" morph and later realizing that he has been among the rebels the whole time.

Myst IV
Walking around in Spire, following in the footsteps of the previously trapped son of Atrus. That's atmosphere!

Knights of the old republic
Finding out who Revan really was. I really didn't see that one coming.

Silent Hill

I found the scene with Lisa to be quite memorable, was sad and the music was nice too. Watch - http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=tm2w4aSpiqs

Abe's Oddysee

Running from the Scrabs and making it! Wow the rush it would give me! I think this game is the reason that sneaking/stealth in Adventure Games doesn't bother me too much! Watch - http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=u8YMdCi09Pw

Space Quest IV

Memorable moments in general. I was actually thinking of the bit where you go back to the bar in Space Quest 1 and the reaction of the aliens, but couldn't find the video. Watch - http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=sdUnoOIikE0

Gabriel Knight 2

The music, ahhh! Watch - http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=jBKiAIYEwh4

Enchanted Arms

When I finally managed to beat Omega! In the end with the right tactic it is fairly easy but it took me ages to work it out! Watch this freak beat him in only six minutes! - http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=iDEtIYttuvM

It's my first time posting links so I hope they work!

Threads like these are always a bit risky I think. Because you tend to want to experience these memorable moments yourself, and not read about them in advance.... yet they're great for reminiscing about games that you share fond memories of. Basically I just try not to read any of the stuff I still plan to play at some point. That being said:

Little Big Adventure (Relentless)
Breaking into the museum.

Starcraft
Learning what happened to Kerrigan at the start of the Zerg campaign and realizing your part in it.

Portal
"Did you think I was using reverse psychology on you? Really now."

Shadow of the Colossus
Meeting the first Colossus... and riding alongside the thirteenth and jumping onto its wings as it cut through the sand.

Psychonauts
Finding the hidden room in Milla's mind.

The Secret of Monkey Island
Recombining insults against the Swordmaster... and picking up the statue tied to your leg by the pier.

Half Life 2
Entering City17.

For me one thing most of these moments seem to have in common is something unexpected. It doesn't have to be a twist, but a surprise... a depth you didn't see coming, or an emotion you weren't prepared for.

System Shock 2
The part up to where you anger shodan by disobeying her and she takes away the cyber modules you've found by doing so. If you do that.

Descent
The first mine-self-destruct escape run.

Icewind Dale
When you meet Malavon.

X-wing vs. Tie Fighter - Balance of Power
When you first run into the super star destroyer in the rebel campaign.

Silent Hill 2
Watching the tape.

Scratches
Finding out the real source of the scratching noises.

Monkey Island 2
The ending. Love it or hate it, it's definetely memorable.

Police Quest 4
Breaking into the home of the crossdressing serial killer. It's intense.

Super Mario 64
The first time you ran around controlling Mario in complete 3D, felt like such a huge leap forward.

BioShock
First time seeing a Big Daddy pat the head of a Little Sister, the golf club scene, the shocking twist in the story. The entire game is pretty much a memorable moment.

Maniac Mansion (C64)

Edna. 'Nuff said. Also: The entire intro sequence, hell that was spooky. Also: Even more considering the game's age and rough edges that Edison mansion sure feels a lot more like a real place than the collection of screens, random objects in many "me too" games that followed. Did you ever try to ring the doorbell a second, third, fourth time while Weird Ed was on his way down the stairs? Grabbed the cheese from the fridge early in the game? That's how tricky (and funny) games were designed in 1987, folks. Well, occasionally.

Summer Games/World Games/California Games/And so on (Epyx, C64)

Playing it together with like a dozen people on various occasions. Hot-seat hot-shit easy-to-pick-up multiplayer party action (or HHETPUMPAs, as they have it), and that was almost two decades before Wii, Eye Toy and Sing Star were more than a blink in their creators' eyes.

Tetris (Gameboy)

The fact that this shipped with Nintendo's Gameboy made this all the more unforgettable. Humming along to the tunes, arranging blocks and keeping an eye on the battery power level at once, gameplay moments hardly got any more involving than that.

Tomb Raider 2 (Windows)

This may sound a little odd to some who missed that era, but this was the first game I fired up on my brand new Voodoo graphics card. Those were like the shits. And oh, bliss: Instead of struggling to deliver half-way solid framerates in subpar resolutions, and let's not forget textures that looked like Lego bricks when walking up close, the game ran totally smoth in high resolutions, and the Lego bricks were done for.

Thief, Demo (Windows)
Firing that up not knowing what to expect was perhaps the last true completely-knocks-me-out-of-my-pants moment I've had when playing a game. Gaming hasn't gone any further than this still. I think the second page of this review explains it better than I ever could.

There's countless more but that's all for now.

Quest For Glory 4
When that gorilla(I think?) offered up his life to revive the girl and when Katrina sacrificed her life for the hero. And oh, when I reunited the ghost couple, and oh... freed the Rusulka.

Man, that game was truly awesome. So many memorable scenes! I can't remember any other game which has come close, as of yet.

I'll second that, except Need for Speed Hot Pursuit and System Shock were also extremely suspenseful when I first played them. That reminds me of another one...

NFS High Stakes
When you have to wager your brand new class AA car.

The only game that I really remeber voodoo1 for was NFS2. X-wing vs Tie Fighter and Outlaws didn't look all that much better. Mine came with Mechwarrior and Hyperblade, but with those I only really noticed the gameplay, not the graphics. I remember playing Forsaken with it, but it looked better on various other cards.

How has this not been mentioned yet?

Flashback
Seeing Conrad's in-game animation for the first time (and watching bullet casings pop out of his semi-automatic). Spectacular.

The cutscene in which Constantine takes what he really needs from you.

Full Throttle
Bunnies

When you return to Kharak, only to find it annihilated

Granny's Garden - BBC
Any time the witch finds you... Scared the absolute hell out of me
