Nintendo announces the DS for some reason
http://www.gamespydaily.com/news/fullstory.asp?id=5624
Jake sent me this link, and my brain is reeling from the idiocy. Nintendo better have something damn clever up their sleeve, or they'll just end up shooting themselves in the foot again. Two screens!? What the hell??

Its baffling. Hopefully the entire point of the system is to make the most insane sequel to WarioWare imaginable. Aside from that, it seems completely worthless.

What's wrong with Nintendo? They've gone kind of insane.

"GameSpy has learned the very first concrete details regarding the brand new gaming system from Nintendo. <paste press release unedited>"
How cute. They almost tricked me into thinking they had some kind of exclusive. I have a hard time visualising this device. Why not make a single widescreen TFT and a single more powerful processor? You can still have splitscreen graphics and "simultaneously manage your game progress from two different perspectives". But ... we'll see. |

Wow, people should make Dual Screen television now. Tired of seeing the same reruns in the same camera angles?
Well the porno industry would benefit at least. |

Well, I'm excited to see this thing at E3, that's for sure.
And a single large display would not be foldable, so I guess that's one reason for the dual-screen. But at any rate, it sounds a lot like they're going back to the Game & Watch. I'm remaining faithful in Nintendo, even though people are bashing this device left and right. I mean, people never believed in The Wind Waker. EDIT: And yes, an insane version of Wario Ware would most likely sell it to me. Imagine the insanity trying to keep up with two crazy mini-games at once on two seperate displays! I'm all for it!

It's going to be very interesting, I am nowadays a loyal Nintendo guy, because my old trustworthy Sega has no new consoles anymore.
So I hope Nintendo will have success with this new DS.

The screens are apparently one on top of the other, not side by side. That's slightly more appealing but still highly mysterious.

I wonder why it needs two separate processors, then. I can't imagine that whatever is going to be shown on the "secondary" screen (be it upper or lower) is going to require its own processor, considering the press release indicated the other screen will mainly be for sub-menus and alternate angles and things. Two processors would increase the unit's cost unnecessarily, I would think.

Well, one of the screens has the same processor as the GBA. The other has a more advanced processor, so maybe some 3d?
Hell, from the little news we have of this thing I'm already too excited about it. The dual-screen idea sounds neat if they do some good things with it, but I'm more excited about the fact that this is just a small part of the new features this new portable will bring to the market.
