Horror based games
I'm currently playing Silent Hill 2 and I think I like it
Are there any more horror themed (preferably adventurish) games out there? Last edited by MdaG; 07-15-2006 at 10:52 AM. |

From that lot, System Shock, but I'm not voting yet because I'm sure I'll think of something else in a few minutes .

Mine is F.E.A.R., i haven't seriously played any on the list yet. Clive Barker's Undying and Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines were good one's to.

Had to say Silent Hill just because 1 and 2 were excellent. 3 was also quite a lot of fun, but not as good. The atmosphere in those games just hasn't been topped by other horror games. System Shock 2 may be the best game of the bunch, but taking into account the actual "horror" of those games listed...Silent Hill all the way.

System Shock, no doubt. I look forward to Bioshock, the spiritual sequel to SS2.

I loved System Shock! That game scared me to death on several occasions.
The good news is that the guys from System Shock are working on a new game in SS style called Bioshock. Check it out: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/bi...tml?q=bioshock.

I get Hellraiser flashbacks from Silent Hill 2, with Resident Evil I got more of the generic "slow stupid zombies try to eat human brain" flashback. I like both though, but they both suffer from "stupid puzzle"-syndrome. Why can't they just have believable puzzles instead of stupid puzzles? I mean, the "coin puzzle" and "tablet puzzle" in Silent Hill 2 were just stupid. I recall something similar from Resident 3. System shock had nice puzzles, if one can call them puzzles.

For franchise, i'm going to go with Resident Evil since i've always been keen on them. Had I played more than the System Shock demo, I probably would have picked that, since the demo had me scared out of my mind.

I'm surprised no mentioned the Phantasmagoria series, it being an adventure game and all. Those games were genuinely creepy, even with the FMV acting. Back when I was 12, I had to get 2 friends with me to play the first game; that's how scared I was.

I picked the RE games though I dont think they are really that scary they
are a favorite of mine. I loved the 1st. "Silent Hill" and found the 2nd okay but the others just dont do it for me. But if you want to talk "Scary" and "creepy" even though they arnt PC games, the scariest Ive ever played have got to be the "Fatal Frame" series, if you like a good scare and have a ps2 those are a must play IMO of course. For me, the scariest games, not creepy but sudden scare moments, has been the Resident Evil series...Especially Resident Evil 2..

I really like Silent Hill 2 the most out of the games I have played. Or should I say I'm reppelled by it more then the others. Surely thats a sign it's pretty scary. I haven't played System Shock.

I never played System Shock, but I loved System Shock 2 and look forward to Bioshock.
Silent Hill, especially the first two, had a very creepy feeling that lasted for days. Despite the aged graphics, the playstation version of Silent Hill 1 is still horrifying. Other games that fit the description of a "thinker" horror game would be Fatal Frame (Project Zero), Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth and The Thing. If you can live with less thinking but still want a good horror, check out Clive Barkers Undying, Doom 3, F.E.A.R and Condemned: Criminal Origins. |

Am I the only one to like Delaware St. John as a horror/thriller adventure? (Or Scratches in some extent).)And I chose System Shock, but as an RPG'ish FPS style. However, I was not horrified, not event surprised in any of the games listed in the poll. (Maybe Alone in the Dark was a bit effective)
Guess, I am too used to stupid (i.e. lack of A.I.) monsters jumping from dark corners around the screen. That doesn't work for me, as long as I have enough ammo. Cheers... |
