Gonzalo Frasco has written a rather interesting take on GTA3. Yes, it's about the zillionth article about GTA, but it's still quite nice. If you enjoyed the future of adventure games article, you should check this one out too. It discusses some of the weaknesses of free-form games such as Shenmue and how GTA3 has features that cancel out those negative sides. At the end Gonzalo compares GTA3 with flight simulators, which is an unexpected angle that does make a lot of sense.
