Most anticipated FPS release ever?
No, that's Half-Life 2, and it will probably stay that way until Half-Life 3 is announced. Seriously, I don't many people are really excited about Prey. I'm not excited at all. |

Wow, easy with the hyping eriq, you may end up disappointed as hell Trailer looks good, although it does confirm my suspicions that it has Doom 3 syndrome (narrow corridors and then some), even if it has the cool portals and run-up-against-the-wall gameplay.
That said, I think it'll be a fun game with some awesome fast-paced multiplayer (if they do it right) and perhaps also a decent single player experience |

Its being produced by 3D Realms (former Apogee) and they're known for producing good games.

Well, gauging by the trailers, I think the way the game moves, the acts you'll need to take, is going to make this a different FPS experience for sure!
I think this game could well be one of the better FPS since HL2 or F.E.A.R! I certainly am excited to play it myself.

Looking at the trailer, it is the Doom 3 engine right? and I find Doom 3-esque metallic corridors extremely boring, so didn't excite me.

I can see Eriqs point seeing as how Prey has been in and out of development for almost as long (or maybe even longer) As Duke 4ever.

Second of all, 3D Realms used to make good games 10 years ago. Forget about good games, they are yet to make a SINGLE game since Duke Nukem. Back then we were playing DOOM 2 and the world was such a different place.

The "supertrailer" sure was exciting, but didn't really show me enough gameplay to warrant my attention. It was only after I watched the older E3 demo when I understood what the whole fuss is about. While I predict it will turn out to be a straight and linear shooter (despite all the "puzzles", "spirit walks" and whatnot), the level (and weapon and enemy and etc.) design seems wicked, in a great way. And did I read it correctly - you can't really die in Prey? Awesome.
Who knows, this may end up on my "games to purchase as soon as I upgrade" list. And given that I'm not into FPSs at all, that accounts for something.

Is it the trailer that shows the part in the bar and then the parts in the ship with the conversation with that "master indian" in the middle?
I loved that trailer, sounds like a fun game.

This, the Half-Life sequels, and Huxley are what I'm waiting for as far as FPSes go.

By the way, something that just hit me.
Have you noticed that despite FPS' being great aggression releasers you never really go savage on them? What I mean is, there's never a moment where you actually hate the guts of your enemies, save for like Wolfenstein cause they're nazis. Do you think this would improve the experience? A little extra story and cutscenes that would make you want to fight harder and deliver a more visceral experience on your psyche?

I agree. I can't think of a shooter where I REALLY hated someone I was killing. Good point. I could go on about lack of storylines in FPShooters. Even Half Life 2 didn't quite "grab" me with its story.
I don't expect Prey will either but what I find most exciting about Prey are the environments. They look like a fresh take on the same old shooter formula. I especially like the creature design. And some of the outdoor space alien shooting sequences look pretty cool too. If you watch that video, there are some insane effects like the cube pieces coming together in that huge machine, the sweet sphincter looking doorways opening and closing, and the killer "portals" into new environments that the enemies can chase you into. There's a lot of innovative stuff going on. And it's the first really fun sci-fi themed fantasy shooter out in a while that hasn't a thing to do with Hell or demons. I can't wait. Now back to Dreamfall. |

Personally, I'd like more open-ended gameplay --- such as multiple solutions to missions in the FPS genre.
Oh, and multiple endings to the game would be cool, too.... |
