Metal Gear
Thought I'd make a topic about my favorite series of games... Metal Gear. Tactical espionage action is indeed a genre unto itself. It doesn't play anything like the other "stealth" games to follow MGS, like Splinter Cell or Tenchu.
The games are almost divided into 3 even parts... 1: amazing story told through thrilling cutscenes or radio conversation. 2: Sneaking around, using your trusty cardboard box as a disguise, or just killing everyone with a silenced Socom... and 3: at least 7 epic boss encounters, that take geniune strategy and have lots of replayability. Metal Gear Solid 4 has more potential than any other game in development right now, for me at least. The trailer is stunning, and is indeed running real-time on PS3 hardware, as Kojima showed in a live demonstration. Most importantly, the games have soul. Solid Snake, or "Dave" as few people know him by, is the most human character I've seen in an action game. He ages, and changes from game to game. In MGS4 he's a silverhaired man who looks about 60 years old. Of course, he's a clone of a legendary soldier so he ages faster than regular folk. What do you think about Metal Gear? I like the sneaking around and survival aspect of MGS3, but they are pretty average, for me, its the fantastic story and boss battles that really bring the game to another level. Can't wait for MGS4, also. I'm also curious on how MS3: Subsistence will be, with the new camera and online play.

Metal Gear Solid was ace and as much as I thought MGS2 was excellent towards the end the neverending mind numbing and completely baffling cutscenes were too much to bear.
Never played MGS3.

It is certainly split into three parts, but you've incorrectly identified them.

MoriartyL, you forgot about the countless amazing boss battles in the MGS series. They are a huge part of the appeal.

I dunno... I seem to dislike the aspects of the MGS series that others like the most .
For the record, I'm not a big fan of boss battles in any context, but some of the MGS ones are downright mean in places. And I always think that the story would make for a pretty bad film (which is surely the criteria by which the designers would like it to be judged). That said, I'm a huge fan of the sneaking bits . |

Now, including long film and audio drama cutscenes, on the other hand... that's unique. |
