Default Genre Bender

I was reading the post by Tomma and I agree that Quantic Dream should not end up trapped in one genre.

This reminds me of Tetsuya Mizuguchi. He started by bringing the rhythm game to consoles. He then revolutionized the shooter. Now he is the best puzzle designer since Alexey Pajitnov.

I’m seeing a similar future in innovation here, Mr. Cage. What genre do you think needs a wake-up call or are you already planning to create another?

nice avatar, i like it

and i think he already created some kind of a new genre....there are a lot of games who want to be an interactive movie....they try to tell a story like a movie....wing commander 3+4 as example....

fahrenheit is vice versa....its a movie who tries to tell a story "as a game"....

i don't know if my sentences are exactly correct, because my english is not so good....but i think you'll know what i mean

It’s not technically new because others have tried. Based on initial praise and sales I would call this is the first successful interactive movie (since Killer 7 sold about as well as every other “IM”). So, as not to take that away from Quantic, by another I meant not only brand new, but in inclusion to what has been accomplished by Fahrenheit.

By the way, your English is just fine. Where from?

I don't intend to revisit every single genres. I do games by passion and my personal tastes and interest determines what I can do or not.

I won't limit myself to the adventure genre. My intention is to continue to explore the different possible ways of creating emotions with interactivity. At the moment, it is through storytelling, but it may be through different means in the future.

I think that Karma will be an exciting new direction.

David, that's interesting because I myself moved beyond playing just 'pure' adventures. I did so because I got frustrated by the arbitrarily imposed limitations. I loved Gabriel Knight 3, which was my introduction to the adventure game, and I wanted more of that.

However, I also discovered the essence of the genre in other games, like Deus Ex and the Silent Hill series. The stories were there as the central focus, the characters were there to make me fall in love or cry or seethe with anger. Eventually I moved on to Knights Of The Old Republic, Beyond Good & Evil, Broken Sword 3, Fable, ICO, and today Indigo Prophecy. In other words, I'm ultimately not interested in the limitations and conventions of genre, but in the possibilities of the story and the emotions emanating from it.

I used to work for a German advertiser. I grew to love the language. I can only half read it, but if I could speak it I would. Thank you for the translator.

Wow, Germany. Too cool.
