Default Best Movie you've seen this year

Saw a similar topic in the gaming forum so I figured it'd be interesting to see what you guys regard as the best movie so far this year.

At the moment two movies have tied first place:

Sin City: In two words, violent and visceral. By far one of the most audreneline pumped movies I've ever seen.

Downfall: A revolutionary achievement in German theatre. Tradgic and moving, it represents the horrors of war and the makes the monster that was Hitler seem somehow human.

So what do you regard as the best movie so far this year?

I see so many movies in a year, it's hard to saw which is best. I can barely remember all that i've seen so far. I guess, if I were to just throw one out there, it would be Jaws. I saw it for the first time a month back.

Der Untergang.

I never thought of Hitler as a monster. There's nothing more human than cruelty. Just look around you. Kindness and tolerance are exceptional in our world.

At the moment Sin City is the best movie I've seen this year.

I can't pick just one. Sideways, Sin City and War Of The Worlds are all vying for the same position with me at the moment.

Man this thread topic just reminds me of how few movies I've seen in the theaters this year. Sin City is definitely tops so far of the movies released this year that I've seen. On DVD, the best movie I've seen this year that's relatively recent is The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Yeah, it's just the easy way out. Makes the movie all the more scarier. Human after all.

I just saw the March of the Penguins. Great movie. We wouldn't have to deal with population explosion if we have to walk 70 miles (several times!) in artic chill to find a mate and have an offspring like the Emperor penguins.

When it was revealed that there are less male penguins than female penguins and since the Emperor penguins are monogamous for a breeding season, females literally have to fight for males, I thought man, I wish I were an Emperor penguin. But then later I found out why there are less male penguins than female ones and I was glad that I wasn't one. God, I'm so shallow.

I haven't seen most of the new movies this year. So I'll say Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Actually, the only other movie I saw this year was Star Wars 3: Revenge of the Sith.

I can't believe that for some people, Saw and War of the Worlds are the best movies they've seen this year...

My vote goes to... nothing. I saw very few movies this year, and they were all undeserving.

Batman Begins
Sin City
War of the Worlds
Cinderella Man
Crash
The 40-Year Old Virgin

I've liked just about every movie I've seen this year, but those are probably my favorites.

BTW, if anyone is interested in the top 10 best reviewed movies of 2005 list, click below. Top 3 are 40-Year Old Virgin, Cinderella Man, and Batman Begins. Bottom 3 are King's Random, Alone in the Dark, and Supercross:

I'll second that. Brilliant movie! I've also just recently purchased two other Charlie Caufman movies: Being John Malcovich and Adaptation. I'd highly recommend all these movies for those seeking something highly original and slightly offbeat.

Oldboy!
A Korean film from 2003, but i didn´t get released here in the western world until this year.
You gotta see this film if you like brutal revenge flicks.

Also check out the director, Chan Wook Park´s earlier film Sympathy for Mister Vengeance.
