If the person is Chinese, they might not be too glad about that number: I heard that "4" is a number of death in China.

(Don't know if this is true, though)

Well, Jazy, it's somewhat true. The words indicating the number 4 and death in Chinese (and Korean too) are homonyms so the number is known to be bad luck like the number 13 in some Western cultures.

You still get a smiley for knowing so much about Asian cultures.

Hmm... If jejjajevel was indeed 4,444th registered member, why does their profile's address end with "4449"? When and how did the difference of 5 appear?

Thank you!

I also noticed that at the Chinese Airports they did not have a Terminal 13 or something like that. I didn't look if they had a Terminal 4, though (I noticed the absence of Terminal 13 by coincidence).

On the flip side, 4,444 reduces to 7 (4+4+4+4=16, 1+6=7) which is considered a very lucky number.

Number 4 is an unlucky number in Japan.
The Japanese word for "4" is "Shi", which also means death.

Because every now and then people PM/e-mail me and ask to have their accounts removed. Apparently 5 people have done that.

The number in the URL is the database id for the user, whereas the member count is the number of rows in the user table of the database. The max id and the count don't have to match

Ahh... thanks. It never occured to me that someone may want to have their account removed.

EDIT:...because I was convinced, until a minute ago, that users who got banned stay in the table. But I just checked and they apparently don't (only their user profile page is still there). It's a fairly recent design change, isn't it?

Banned users are still in the users table. They have to be so that their old posts can still be linked to an account. vB just moves banned users to the "Banned Users" usergroup, which has no priveleges.

In that case, "Banned" usergroup members don't get displayed when I search through the Members List.

That makes sense. I think for the total memberrs thing it just does a COUNT(*) FROM users with no qualifiers.
