I've always been consistently disappointed with the Foo's. I love their singles, but I can never sit through an album. That said, they'd be great live.
Going to see Coldplay in a few weeks. Should be great! I hate people that take jabs at them because they're popular - their first album was so-so (Yellow annoys me) but the follow up was so utterly spectacular it amazed me it was the same band. I can sit through any first-album material just to hear anything from Rush of Blood... BTW I used to be a metal freak. Been to many "underground" concerts at the Roadmenders in Northampton as a teenager and supported my old mates boyfriends bands consistently in college. The guy was just an amazing bassist. Ended up being one of their dancers!

He he. No, they're pretty good. I tell Coldplay people to listen to more Pedro The Lion stuff all the time. And start with their latest album (no distorted guitars anymore). Edgier, less polish, and that's a *good* thing. http://www.purevolume.com/pedrothelion/music (try Transcontinental, Bands with managers or Arizona or....... Foregone conclusions. or.......... ARGH Wish I could find my disc now that I'm listening to all those songs on purevolume again.). Quote:

Hmm... interesting thread
It's impossible to decide on the very best - it comes down to 3 :- Henry Rollins (formerly of Black Flag) at Manchester Academy about 10 years ago - this was a great mix of really heavy rock and incredible humour. I don't think I will ever forget it. Also, this was one of the first gigs I ever went to and my ears were ringing for 2 weeks after it! Faith No More at the Manchester Apollo, I think 1998 - I do remember I was really ill at the time and had to stay at the back of the room throughout all my favourite songs, but it was still a very emotional event and I wouldn't have missed it for anything! Red Hot Chili Peppers at the Leeds Festival about 3-5 yrs ago - I experienced crowd surfing for the very first time and lost my wallet and mobile phone, plus my tent got raided and I lost my car keys and credit cards! Apart from being a great gig there's no way I can ever forget that one! As an aside, I feel I must mention a play that I saw a few years ago in London. The Woman In Black is a ghost story based on a book by Susan Hill, and this show was one of the scariest experiences of my life, if not the scariest I went to see it with my ex and we both screamed out loud a number of times |

For a big ol' tattoo-covered dude who still manages to look like a cop most of the time, Henry Rollins is very intelligent and extremely funny in an interview. If his live shows are half as good as his interviews, they must indeed be great events.
Maybe he'll come to Birmingham (Alabama, not England) sometime soon. ScottMate

Of all people, Mike Patton, huh? I can kind of see that.
So, where do you stand on the subject of Dave Navarro? ScottMate

I like the stuff he has done with The Dillinger Escape Plan.
**** those Beatles squares: New Jersey's DEP are incontrovertibly the the greatest band the world has ever seen. The evidence is threefold. One: they mash together squiddly jazz guitars, death metal and 'challenging' time signatures into a huge spiky ball of noise. Two: on their new EP, Faith No More/Tomahawk nutjob Mike Patton runs around in a gas mask screaming how much he hates Hollywood. Three: herein is a version of Aphex Twin's 'Come To Daddy' which makes the original sound like Charlotte Church. (NME) Oh, baby.

Rollins is intelligent and funny in all his appearances, and he comes across as a really nice, down to earth guy, although he did have some wild times in the early days when he was with Black Flag. And, yes - his live shows are awesome - if you ever get the chance to see one then I totally recommend it. Some of them are available on video and are well worth watching. One that stands out in particular is just him doing stan-up for about an hour - its not really him telling jokes but more talking about general stuff, but he talks about things in a way that makes them funny In a way he sort of reminds of Denis Leary. Plus, he's written some interesting books of poetry that reflect how he was feeling after his best friend was shot and killed by a mugger. Ok - that's it now from the one-man Henry Rollins fan club |
