Military service
Well, today we had that whatever-it's-called-in-english, and they put me to Kotka. I really would have liked to go elsewhere.
However, the whole happening was absurd. Like the chat with the doctor. -Do you consider yourself healthy? -I don't know. -*any question* -I don't know. -Are you feeling unsure? -I don't know. I told them I was mentally unstable, and they still gave me A-papers. I have to write a short story about this one...

I was lucky, since I'm blind as a bat, I didn't have to do it either, I don't know what its called in elnglish and I'm not sure they have a word, becuase you join voluntarily in other couintries.... Hmm, maybe its "drafted"?

Well, Kotka ain't so bad I presume deadwormie...
If you had been put to Kajaani like I was couple of years ago, that was like hell on earth... Six months there seemed like ten years... |

I "did my time" at Vekaranjärvi. Military is a surreal place.
PS. Tanukitsune, love your Wonderland avatar! Wonderland was one of the first adventures I played on PC, yet I finished it for the first time only a couple of years ago. A decade of entertainment value! |

I guess I'll get approached for this soon... I'll (Hopefully) get out of it because of my terrible eyesight (and because of the way I blink I can't aim with a rifle).
Mandatory military service is extremely dumb, IMO, and most of the soldiers don't do shit there anyway... And they don't even want you to join since it just costs money and is practically useless.... |

I didn't have to go because a law was changed and students who were in university/college/etc. at that time didn't have to do military service.

Kajaani has one of Finland's biggest military bases.
Almost everybody from the western coast gets sent there, even though Kajaani is located in eastern part of Finland. (The travelling was hell, almost every weekend to home and back, that's 700-800km every time) And bad eye-sight doesn't count on Finland that much, I'm more blind than a bat, but still I was made a bazookaman in six months. I was a A-paper guy when I went there, but came back as a B-guy, still my service wasn't different than A-guys. And there where so bizarre things happening while I was there, sometimes I just couldn't believe my eyes what I was seeing. |

When it was time to go I refused and had to do a public service at the local library
Now it's luckily a voluntary thing...

But the bizarre stuff there, the high ranking officers really where a strange kind of people, some had serious problems with themselves, and it was really unbelievable to see some of them actually given work near ammo and guns... And that's only one of the great examples of my time in the service of Finland's army. |
