Default About religion

I came across a good quote when it comes to religion:

Quote:
The question isn't whether or not there are gods or not, but rather why some people choose to worship them instead of fight against them! With power comes responsibility and it is not acceptable to let the world be in it's current state if you have the power to change it to the better.

Ah, well, I thought of adding "(beware of flamewars)" to the subject-line, but I never did.

Besides, it was some time since the last hot topic.

Honestly, this is really scary. I'm crapping my pants over here, hoping this thread fades away quickly. Not that I'm doing much good by bumping it...

Lakerz runs up, pours copious amounts of flammable pitch all over this threads and slinks away into the shadows.

Allow me to rekindle the flame of this 'Hot' topic...

Black Sabbath-After Forever

Have you ever thought about your soul - can it be saved?
Or perhaps you think that when you're dead you just stay in your grave
Is God just a thought within your head or is he a part of you?
Is Christ just a name that you read in a book when you were in school?

When you think about death do you lose your breath or do you keep your cool?
Would you like to see the Pope on the end of a rope - do you think he's a fool?
Well I have seen the truth, yes I've seen the light and I've changed my ways
And I'll be prepared when you're lonely and scared at the end of our days

Could it be you're afraid of what your friends might say
If they knew you believe in God above?
They should realize before they criticize
That God is the only way to love

Is your mind so small that you have to fall
In with the pack wherever they run
Will you still sneer when death is near
And say they may as well worship the sun?

I think it was true it was people like you that crucified Christ
I think it is sad the opinion you had was the only one voiced
Will you be so sure when your day is near, say you don't believe?
You had the chance but you turned it down, now you can't retrieve

Perhaps you'll think before you say that God is dead and gone
Open your eyes, just realize that he's the one
The only one who can save you now from all this sin and hate
Or will you still jeer at all you hear? Yes! I think it's too late.

Let the flaming begin !

Okay, you asked for it so you got it:

Let me comment on this song

Have you ever thought about your soul - can it be saved?

I don't believe in a 'soul'. I think we're all reacting to a set of pre-defined things which have been programmed into our brains when we were born.

Or perhaps you think that when you're dead you just stay in your grave

No, you start rotting and eventually not much will be left.

Is God just a thought within your head or is he a part of you?

God is something different for everyone. For me he's just a storybook character, made up ages ago.

Is Christ just a name that you read in a book when you were in school?

To me, yes.

When you think about death do you lose your breath or do you keep your cool?

I'm cool about it. Sometimes I worry about *how* I will die, though. Like many people, I'd like it to be quick and painless.

Would you like to see the Pope on the end of a rope - do you think he's a fool?

Looking at some of his opinions about condoms, AIDS and all, I'd say 'fool' is an understatement.

Could it be you're afraid of what your friends might say
If they knew you believe in God above?
They should realize before they criticize
That God is the only way to love

I'm never afraid to hear opinions, as long as they're constructive.

Is your mind so small that you have to fall
In with the pack wherever they run

I think it's small-minded to think you live for God, to please him and whatnot some of the fanatic believers believe.

Will you still sneer when death is near
And say they may as well worship the sun?

A lot of people worshipped the Sun and the Moon. The Greek and the Egyptians all had their own Gods. What's the difference between God/Allah and Zeus? Why would Zeus be made up and God not?

There is no god! Why? Just because. People don't have to justify their theism, so why should I have to justify my atheism. Actually it's because I can't be bothered.

PTDC, would you consider changing your avatar at all? It totally depresses me.

Hmm, I should change it, mainly because I like to make my own avatars but I haven't found the time. I just feel so glum
