The Cheapskate Diaries
I took my father-in-law (not that I'm technically married but I don't know what else to call him) to my local PC store the other day to buy him a new keyboard. I picked one up, walked up to the checkout and asked how much it was. "$7" came the reply (around US$4-5).
"Holy crap, that's unbelievably cheap!" said the little voice in my head. I looked over at my father-in-law and saw him hold up his seniors' card and start asking for a discount. We didn't get the discount but, man, I felt like a cheap ass. Anyone else experienced moments of extreme cheapness recently? |

There's a shop in my home town that is literally called "The Cheap Shop" It's really tiny but packed floor to ceiling with stuff that will mostly last forever but is still required to have a "Best Before" date. The most fascinating things are the products that you've never seen int he shops because they failed at some point in product development or just didn't sell. Curry flavoured popcorn springs to mind.
They also do wholesale. 24 cartons of "Oooooohhh" (an experimental version of Ribena the blackcurrant juice drink. There was a companion brand called "Aaaaaaarrgghh" which was the original recipe with chilis added. ) cost £1.50. They'd have originally cost (at about 45p eac) £10.80.

Pretty easy to see how difficult it would've been to market these products, though. |
