I was in Paris this weekend, and I saw a billboard for the new Manchurian Candidate remake. It was called something like "une crime dans le tete" (my French grammar has always been appalling, please don't hurt me), which translates as "a crime in the head".

that title does make sence though, if may not sound that great but it fits the movie perfictly.

May be an apocryphal stoy but I heard a good one about the German translation for "White Men Can't Jump" Since the film's about basketball the title presumably means that white men can't do the leap needed for a slamdunk. With this in mind the translation coming out as "White Men Can't Get It Up" may indicate title translators don't watch the films first.

I always prefer films with subtitles instead of dubbing if for no other reason that dubbing often suffers from the same bad voice acting many games do. Plus there's nothing like answering the question "What did you do at the weekend?" with "I watched a nearly fifty year old black and white film in Swedish, "

The look on my workmates faces was priceless.

"Airplane!" was translated to "Hjelp, vi flyr!" ("Help, we're flying!") in Norway. Actually, most comedy movies in the 80's were renamed to "Hjelp, vi -insert a verb here-".

Not immediately relevant to the thread but a post elsewhere has led to this interview with Ron Gilbert that has suffered badly from being translated into German (for the Austrian website interviewing him) and then back again, presumably by Gilbert fans.

Ah, the joys of machine translation.
