Previously, IE was in the lead. What's the situation today?

Opera.

I think it's great. Haven't tried using Mozilla/Firefox (aren't they the same?) though, it might be just as good, but as long as I don't have to use IE it's good enough for me...

Not entirely. Though the differences aren't huge.

Firefox: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/
Mozilla: http://www.mozilla.org/products/mozilla1.x/

I changed first to Mozilla and then to Firefox. IE became so unstable on my machine and... it doesn't have tabs. The new Firefox has an awesome pop-up stopper, too.

I use Firefox. It's a huge improvement over IE.

Firefox. Just couldn't stand patching IE all the time! Had CrazyBrowser shell for IE before, that was OK. But Firefox is much, much faster...

Someone give me the skinny here. I use IE, and never really had any problems whatsoever. Am I just lucky? What's the benefit of the other browsers, aside from anti-Microsoft chic?

I mainly use IE, because I also never have had any problems with it.
I also have Firebird installed, but I only use it when working with web design.

Non-IE browsers are in the lead. This ios a historical moment, and it must prove someting.

People like more security. The knowledge that people can't just ram you with ActiveX crap that can change shit on your computer, by just entering a website. I've had websites silently install shortcuts on my desktop when using IE. That's just something that creeps me out.

It proves that someone has been fiddling with the poll.

I'm not sure, but not using IE doesn't mean you don't have to update it. I believe leaks can still be exploited even though you're surfing with another browser. I think I read that on some site.

Hmmmm..., I found that out yesterday, there was some kind of a trojan on my pc, Bytverify-Exploit something. It gets through some "holes" in IE, among others... So, back to patchin' the crap!

But surfing is much more enjoyable, especially since I have dial-up. And I still believe Firefox it's much safer and more reliable. And when 1.0 comes out... WOOOHOO!

Tabbed browsing. Once you get used to it, you don't want to go back.

And that's just one of many user-friendly features IE doesn't have.

Oh by the way, does anyone know the history of Mozilla vs. Firefox and the actual differences? Was Firefox an effort to 'start all over and do it better this time'? If so, why are there still two different products being actively developed?

Thanks for the answers, guys. I was operating on the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" theory, but if there are enough benefits, I might just check it out. Looks like Firefox is winning the day for alternatives.
