The final trailer

Quote:

The New York Times

How much you like "Kill Bill," a two-part revenge epic, the first volume of which opens nationwide today, will probably depend on the extent to which you share those obsessions, on how much of a taste you have for the synthetic fusion cuisine that the director has cooked up. There are some strong and diverse flavors, as well as vivid colors in the mix, all of them deftly reflected in the hip-hop artist RZA's clever, eclectic score. Mr. Tarantino samples the lurid hues of spaghetti westerns, the deep-fried funk of 70's blaxploitation, and above all the graceful and kinetic mayhem of Asian action movies, from Hong Kong-style martial arts to samurai swordplay to hard-boiled gangster anime.

This film is also Thurman's best work since "Pulp Fiction," and her fellow assassins -- Lucy Liu, Daryl Hannah and Vivica A. Fox -- also turn in outstanding performances. One amazing action scene between Thurman and Liu lasts 20 minutes and took weeks to shoot.

The violence, blood levels -- and just plain cheesy gore -- in this film are extreme, but Tarantino's sharp dialogue and expert editing leaves you breathless. In the hands of a lesser filmmaker, the reaction could have been gagging. "Kill Bill Vol. I" will have Tarantino fans dancing in the aisles.

I'm probably going to see this, despite my intense, seething, almost unbearable hatred of Lucy Liu. I really like Tarantino's other three films, so I'll buy a ticket to Kill Bill based pretty much on the strength of Tarantino's work and the coolness of the trailer music. And I hope to God that Tarantino isn't acting in this one.

I'm really anticapating this movie. I haven't seen Quentin's earlier work or anthing, but this movie looks like it will kick some ass.
Oh, and Lucy Liu is gorgeous, too.

The movie looks cool, but I don't like Lucy that much either, Michelle Yeoh, Cynthia Khan, Moon Lee,etc... are better and can kick her butt!

There's absolutely no way I'm going to be disappointed by this movie.

I liked Pulp Fiction, and little of Reservoir Dogs

Don't care much about Kill Bill, but I think I'll see it eventually.

The trailer for Kill Bill didn't really convince me, but these reviews sound encouraging to me.

Kill Bill--Vol. 1
Capsule by Jonathan Rosenbaum [the FINEST, BEST FILM CRITIC IN NORTH AMERICA!]
From the Chicago Reader

Quote:
Quentin Tarantino's lively and show-offy tribute to Asian martial-arts flicks, bloody anime, and spaghetti westerns he soaked up as a teenager is even more gory and adolescent than its models, which explains both the fun and the unpleasantness of this globe-trotting romp. It's split into two parts, the second due in early 2004, and I assume the idea of "volumes" reflects the mind-set of a former video-store clerk who thinks in terms of shelf life. This is essentially 93 minutes of mayhem, with hyperbolic revenge plots and phallic Amazonian women behaving like nine-year-old boys; the dialogue, less spiky than usual, uses bitch as often as his earlier films used nigger, and most of the stereotypes are now Asian rather than black. If Jim Jarmusch's Ghost Dog was a response of sorts to Tarantino, then Tarantino returns the compliment here with the RZA music and the mixture of Japanese and Italian genre elements. With Uma Thurman, Lucy Liu, Sonny Chiba, Daryl Hannah, Julie Dreyfuss, and Chiaki Kuriyama.

IMO, the plot seems rather weak.

Moos, you are SOOOOO not in the right frame of mind for this movie! WTF cares about the plot? As the critics stated, this movie is an excercise of pure style, pastiche, cliche, and self-consciousness (among other things). The plot is merely incidental, my dear.

I would beg to differ. Stephen Hunter takes both the proverbial cake and the proverbial pie.

Moos, I bet you love the plots of all the veggie tales, don't you?
