Default Yet another graphic card thread....

I will need a new graphic card for when World Of Warcraft is out, mine is a Geforce MX 440 and I don't think it will do...

A friend told me the Radeon 9800 Pro is cheap and powerfull...

But I heard that some Radeon card had trouble with old games, is that still happening? Is this a good card?

I have a Radeon 9800 (not PRO) and it's really good. But haven't tried too many "old games" on it. Indy Fate of Atlantis works superbly, if that's "old" enough

Either way, the 9800 PRO is almost $100 US more expensive than the 9800 which is in and of itself pretty expensive...I don't think one could call it "cheap", per se.

9800 Pro is great but not cheap. Look for a Radeon 9700 Pro, 9500 Pro, 9600 XT, or 9600 Pro, in that order, depending on which you can afford

I posted a comment on the 9600 earlier. It's clocked higher than the 9500, but performs worse. Half the pixel pipelines adds up to much lower fill rates, which hurts performance enough that the higher GPU and RAM clock speed doesn't compensate. The 9500 Pro actually outperforms it by a fair amount on all the benchmarks I've ever seen even with AA and AF cranked up to the max. 9500 Pros are about $130 on eBay right now, even new.

Whatever you do ... do not buy a GeForce FX 5200, no matter how tempting the low price may be.

Well it seems that the only ones I can find for sale are the 9800 and the 9600 PRO....
The 9600 PRO is about 200€...
Most people are saying its better than Nvidia's latest card and others says they give you more trouble!
Now I'm more confused...

I just bought a Radeon 9600 Pro and so far I'm happy with it. I haven't done any benchmarks and haven't tried many games though.

The 9500 Pro was impossible to find in Estonia, I would have preferred that.

The Radeons supposedly have much better Pixel Shaders than the NVIDIA cards, so I've heard. So for now *I think* any Radeon 9500 and above is a better choice than any NVIDIA 5*00. I haven't done a lot of research on this though so don't take my words as 100% truth

I guess I'll go for 9600 Pro then... It better work on W98....
If I migrate to a newer version 98% of my games won't work on it!

I got it! It works fine on W98 and everythings looks better!
The DVD movies look better too...
I tried a few games already, BG&E looks marvelous, so does URU...
I tired some old games too... Commader Keen worked fine, and so did Resident Evil... But it still looked like a bad GBA game....
And it was cheaper than I tought!
