Pirates of the Carribbean 2
Just came back from seeing the second Pirates movie, not sure if any of you have seen this yet.
For those that saw the first one, there seemed to be some ways to draw comparisons to the Monkey Island games. The second one I felt, there was even more. . Those who've seen it, should know exactly what I'm talking about. For me, I felt it was a fun film, although the ending made me feel a bit ... Still, I know for a fact that there is a third in production and I have but a year to see how things pan out. Still ... I feel it should have been a bit more ... conclusive. There's some nice action scenes here, I don't want to go too much in detail, and while they may be a tad overboard of the realism ship, they are still quite fun to watch. MI fans will appreciate Pirates 2, as will those who enjoyed the first, IMO. Overall, I left the cinema with a smile on my face. It's a good summer film, and IMO, will take some beating from the other contenders out there at the moment. That said, Pirates 2 is the first of the big films I've seen. But yea, I thought it was good.

No problem. Sometimes there are threads for specific movies and sometimes people will keep it confined to the "Recent Movies Seen" thread. There is no SOP for movie threads.

I really liked the first one, I posted the first trailer of it here when it was released and told everybody about the similarities with MI. Not many at all were interested then but when the movie was released then everybody went and saw it and started talking about it.
I saw the sequel two days ago and I must say that I was incredibly disapointed. This movie does almost everything wrong. It's incredible how they managed to make such a bad movie based on a first movie that was really good. I was prepared for it to be a Hollywood-sequel, so in other words not as good as the original, but I wasn't expecting it to be this horrible. What a shame.

I saw it today. It was alright, but not as good as the first. It felt too rushed, and the segments didn't connect well.
As an aside, the theater I went to had the audio too loud, so that it was almost blaring in my ears. I hate it when that happens, because I feel less comfortable. |

i thought that this film was better than the first one, i thought the first one was rubbish on account of it trying too hard to sell star actors instead of the storyline. and what about those two english plonkers (guy from the office?) they reeked in the first film. hollywood at it's worst.
however, the second film was good on account of the fact that it didn't try to be a trend setter or special in anyway (or most ways), it was just an entertaining film (untill the crappy ending). all things pirate belong in games and books, i haven't ever seen a good pirate film, even the original treasure island doesn't cut it like the book does. leave pirates to our adventure and imagination, not in such a guidelined form, because i doubt any pirate film, anywhere, anytime will ever be good. ever. |

why thank you henke, but even if you didn't say that i wouldn't have held your disagreements against you, practically everyone i know disagrees with me! so be honest...
and RLacey, muppet treasure island is amazing, it's just that the day when they make a pirate film that isn't comical and 100% hardcore, full on visual pirate evil is the day film makers care about films. just imagine gangs of new york but with pirates, better actors, better visual quality and more pirates. bliss. |
