I'm officially Nocturnal
Remember I was asking if it were possible? It is folks....it is. I'm Nocturnal. I stay up almost the entire night each day (what did I just say? ) and then sleep in till the afternoon-evening. Now....since I have no current job this isn't such a big deal, but its starting to unnerve me.
Why is it that I can't sleep? What is stopping me? I just don't feel tired. I have too much going on in my mind to lie down and sleep. I contemplate shite a little too much I guess. Could it be because I currently have very little to do each day? Could it be because I feel my current direction in life is 'nowhere'? I don't know.....its just getting a little wierd that staying up the whole night has become 'normal' for me. I doubt its good for you either... |

i get like that every now and then........but every night i stay up a half hour later than the previous night and wake up an hour later the following day, so every few weeks i am back to sleeping at night again........then in a few weeks later i am back to sleeping in the daytime again, it is a vicious cycle

i understand you, it's the life of an emcee: Nightlife. maybe these lyrics can aid you on your nightime ventures:
Chorus: [Evidence] Night life.. Ready to spit Tags what? Evidence Taking Cross the planet Step it up this year weather man The times right, sleep all day to wake up for night life Ready to spit When it drops, we gonna hit We step it up, no doubt the times right Sleep all day to wake up for night life i'ma Start every verse with something to quote: "The devil you know, is better than the devil you don't" Last year.. a test, true colors where shown Kings remained in chess on the board and life in thrones Music catch the force of my mic Thats why at night I be out postin' up my own snipes For years I sat back, played the role, what for? This here disc, hear us raw Can't fake it anymore Check it out: You now witness the scenes 2nd release, Expansion Team Shit thumps, shine bright headlights seen on They like laser beams drive fast things and tee green (chorus) You know these nights ain't gettin' any longer Put your best out and bail You never know, you might get stronger I stood back a bit, take punchlines out raps been more legitimate Solidify our place in the game, pleasure with pain Tropical flow: see sun but feel rain Its easy to seclete yourself up in the mix That's why its good to get out at night and holler at chicks I take it back before studio racks, before I understood the concept of seperatin' tracks Before... Around the time my life when I swore That the mic was a device not to be taken light chorus Night life... Graffiti artists get armed Cans get shook, the walls get bombed This is the time when shadow rocks get thrown At your tinted car windows sound off the alarm This is the time you execute your plan While other people sleep, jewels get ran In get away vans exit off ramps Smaller operations are shops bigger one camps Rock knots in pocket pants Got the advance, and back for my back end in hands And things ain't always what they seem from a glance But up close shit'll change your whole prespective Shadows close in, you realize you ain't protected (chorus) |

Some people are naturally 'larks', some are naturally 'owls'. Guess which you are!
I suspect, if you're anything like me, that the reason you're able to stay up all night is that you have no real reason to be awake during the day. Sounds obvious, I know, but without the discipline of waking up at a set time each day, it's surprisingly easy for your sleep pattern to slip. I'd get yourself back to normal - Dangerzone's method is a good one, or you can just spend an entire day in bed if you want a quick fix - and then set yourself rigid times by which you have to be in bed in the evening, and out of bed in the 'morning'. My time is 1pm so it's not exactly onerous. Works for me, kind of. |

Oops, I knew it looked kind of wrong. I think it's because I was pondering to write "[...], make a Lemon Eclair." for too long, before deciding otherwise. *And* I just remembered the geeky version I had come up with some time ago before falling asleep at night: "If life hands you lemons, make batteries."/"If life hands you lemons, use them as batteries" (I need your opinion. Which one sounds better of the two?) -

Anyway, isn't it just a matter of habit? I doubt it that people can be inherently/genetically decided nocturnal, it's just unnatural. Just set your alarm 15 or 30 minutes earlier every day, slowly move back to a regular sleep pattern. Don't do it too harshly, or you'll only make your own life miserable. |

For instance, as near as I can tell, my natural sleep schedule is falling asleep/getting tired at 3-4AM and waking up at 11AM-noon. Doesn't matter that I've spent 26 years of my life with long periods of school and work where I need to wake up at 6-8AM 5 days a week and go to bed at 10PM-midnight, my body just utterly refuses to be trained to a "normal" sleep schedule. The moment I have a period of time where I'm able to sleep and wake whenever I want, unless I actively force myself to keep the same schedule my body reverts to that same 4AM-noon cycle. Which of course is annoying as heck, since it means I can never have a day job without being chronically tired, but, ya know. ;P Peace & Luv, Liz

Somewhat related, but slightly off-topic; if you're interested, check out BBC's Time with Michio Kaku, in which there's an experiment where a geologist in the sixties went cave-exploring. After a couple of days he decides to do a little experiment; he would reside in the cave for 6 months straight without so much as one clock, and report all his activities to a team on the surface. It quickly turned out that humans have a natural biological clock of almost exactly 24 hours, REGARDLESS of any sunlight.
So yeah it's unnatural, and not very healthy (we need sunlight) but it's very improbable that it'll affect the functions your biological clock regulates (which is A LOT, almost our whole body is hardwired to perform according to this bioclock). If you really want you can reset it easily, but I find it interesting to be a little "nocturnal" every now and then |

My body's clock is such that it wants to sleep at 4 am and wake up at noon. It's a pain in the ass and I'm always fighting it (and insomnia).
Part of it might be because I'm neurotic. I feel a lot safer sleeping in the day rather than at night. However, my thinking is always clearest after 8pm. It sucks because if you sleep all day you miss out on a lot of things, and then are very isolated and separated from society at night. |
