Did she tell you this after you expressed feelings for her? Or was it just some chummy moment? If it's the former, I'd say there's little hope of changing that. The latter isn't necessarily a death nell for a future relationship... but if you don't make things more clear soon, that brother label is going to stick.

Get your pals to buy you massive quantities of drinks, and get another girl

What if you and your intended don't have any friends in common? The "fold a love note into a paper airplane and bounce it off their forehead from across the room" method, while original, rarely yields the desired results.

Strike up a conversation by asking them something specific about themselves. A little observation goes a long way. "Are you from Georgia or Alabama?" sure worked like a charm on me.

I think of my girlfriend partly as a sister, and have already told her that.

So it might not be a lost cause, if she meant it in the "good" way, meaning that she feels like she can trust you, that she feels protected, ec..., because then it's not incompatible with a sentimental relationship.

But then again, as it was said, that line is often used in the same way as the good old "I tihnk it's better if we remain friends".

The next time a girl tells me she thinks of me as a brother, it's going to be because I'm pulling her hair all the time.

Thanks for your replies, everyone. The situation is a bit different than most of you presumed. We've known each other for about three and a half years now and we've already been romantically involved. Went through many, many things before ending here, both good and bad. And that's only the short version.

Anyway, things are settled now. Or should I say, things are being settled. I've confronted her with my feelings and the situation's pretty rough at the moment, but at least it's getting us somewhere. As Ted Taylor once said, "Once you open Pandora's box you have to keep going, because Hope emerges last".

I agree with Ninth, sometimes when a couple's relationship is close enough, they feel like a family member to each other in some ways too...like inseparable I think and taking care of each other...but i guess this should come after a long while instead of how one should feel at the beginning of a relationship / to-be relationship?

If she aint into ya, she just aint into ya. No point in causing a ruckus over it. It prolly has less to do with you and more to do with whatever strange hangups she has. Come here to NP, i'll hook ya up mah brother!

Well yeah. But it's not exactly that simple, there are still some issues that need resolving, hopefully a friendship to be salvaged. Living a lie is a damn tiring thing, I tell ya, I'm so glad it's over.

Now, if I remember correctly, you have a sister, right?
