That's only during high season, and only for the tourists. The rest of the time, Maine is quite down to earth and reasonable. Well, except for Bush territory, but no one goes there; the barbed wire, starving hounds and electric fences ensure that.
In my youth, I spent a several weeks taking the mail boat out to the little islands off Portland; it was October, shoulder season, and most of the leaf-peepers had gone. It was lovely, Dan. I think you would like it.

Last year I actually spent two weeks sailing over 100 miles (St. George to Portland) up and down the Maine coast in a 30-foot boat with 13 other people. It was an Outward Bound course. And the awesomest thing ever.

Oh, yeah. Die thread and all that sort of thing.

I found a Canadian quarter a while ago. I discovered that it was a Canadian quarter when the machine it was being used in kept refusing the coin. Apparently the thing's too light to register as an American quarter. So obviously the Canadians are out to make my life more inconvenient.
