Mira, I'm so sorry to hear that your Aunt Flo has decided to pay her normal visit. She's unpleasant and insistant, but at least her visits don't last too long.
Dr. McCoy (me, not the guy from Star Trek) prescribes a hot water bottle wrapped in flannel for cramps, lots of chocolate for mood alteration, and plenty of fluids (especially those rich in potassium, like orange juice) to stave off dehydration. Kick back, watch a few sappy movies, and Aunt Flo will be gone before you know it.

I made sure to get you one with cream ( ), and I'll try to overlook the one questionable quality of preferring your coffee that way in an otherwise sterling character. I threw in a couple of cinnamon roles as well, in hopes that the sugar will counteract the dilutive effect of dairy products on caffeinated beverages. If I may ask, where are you from? Down here, "Aunt Flo" is a common and socially acceptable euphemism for...well, you know.

In all my years, I've never heard of Aunt Flo, though of course I figured it out. You need to write a euphemism dictionary for us mere mortals who haven't had the fine Southern upbringing that you have had.
When I first started my periods, my mother announced it as my no longer being a girl, but rather that I'd become a young lady that day. It was apparently the Northern version of Aunt Flo, since everyone seemed to understand immediately. BTW Mira, do eat some meat or spinach - you want to keep your iron levels up, especially in the winter - it will keep you warmer. Lynsie

I'm from NJ and I have never heard of the expression. I've asked a couple of female friends and one of them, a lifetime New Yorker from Brooklyn no less, has heard of it.

Oh, hang on. I actually have got a Book of Euphemism (it was a bit further along the same shelf) It appears to have 2 and a half pages dedicated to that particular condition. Never heard it called "The monthly flowers" before.

I'm devastated that there are no Shakepeare buffs on the forums. I thought for sure Rob or Mira would come through.

No guesses as to my posted lyrical quote? Two hints then: 1. It's from a song. 2. The song was recorded by a band popular during the 1970s and 1980s. Bonus points for knowing which album the song is on.

I don't think this thread will ever die It's like the chit-chat thread within the chit-chat forum.

Well, Mr. Scott, sir, you picked a bad song to test our knowledge as I was known as quite a Queen in my college days.
The song's on the same album as this one: Love of my life, You hurt me, You broken my heart, Now you leave me Love of my life can't you see, Bring it back bring it back, Don't take it away from me, Because you don't know what it means to me Love of my life don't leave me, You've stolen my love you now desert me, Love of my life can't you see, Bring it back bring it back, Don't take it away from me, Because you don't know what it means to me You will remember when this is blown over, And everything's all by the way, When I grow older, I will be there at your side, To remind how I still love you I still love you I still love you Hurry back hurry back, Don't take it away from me, Because you don't know what it means to me Love of my life, Love of my life |

Hello.
Hey, Scottsie! Nothing like a good dose of misplaced repressed libido to fuel a thread, eh?
