#Anyhow, the man is dead,
Whether stone or lump of lead!
Arquebus from sentry seizing,
With the view his King of pleasing,
Arquebus from sentry seizing,
With the view his King of pleasing,
Wilfred shot him through the head,
And he's very, very dead!
And it matters very little
Whether stone or lump of lead,
It is very, very certain that
He's very, very dead!#

#Famine tracks us down the lanes,
Hunger holds our horses' reigns,
Winter heaps the roads with snow.
Oh we have far to go!

Starving beggars howl their cry,
Snarl to see us spurring by
Times are bad and travel slow.
Oh we have far to go!

We mourn our boys, our missing sons!
We sorrow for three little ones!
Timothy, Mark and John are gone,
Are gone! Are gone! Are gone!#

He is an Englishman!
For he himself has said it,
And it's greatly to his credit,
That he is an Englishman!

That he is an Englishman!

For he might have been a Roosian,
A French, or Turk, or Proosian,
Or perhaps Itali-an!

Or perhaps Itali-an!

But in spite of all temptations
To belong to other nations,
He remains an Englishman!
He remains an e-e-e-e-e-e-english man!

Any more challenges, Mr. Lacey?

Yes. Tell me where the words from post #2503 come from. And then I'll set my next challenge.

It reads like a poem. If so, I'm dead. Not really big on English poetry.

You try this one for size Mr. Lacey.

I have a feeling it might be too easy for you but here it goes:

Quote:
A woman moved is like a fountain troubled,
Muddy, ill-seeming, thick, bereft of beauty,
And while it is so, none so dry or thirsty
Will deign to sip or touch one drop of it.

I should probably know, but poetry isn't actually my forté. I'll tell you for free that #2503 was written by Eric Crozier; what I want to know is which Cantata did it feature in, and who was the composer?

Herr.

Herr, unser Herrscher! Herr! Herr! Unser He-e-e-e-e-e-e-err Unser Herrscher! Herr!

Herr, unser Herrscher, dessen Ruhm
In allen Landen herrlich ist!
Zeig uns durch deine Passion,
Dass du, der wahre Gottessohn,
Zu aller Zeit,
Auch in der größten Niedrigkeit,
Verherrlicht worden bist!

Right. I like the song.

Now that is from your chosen "Now Playing" piece, isn't UPtimist? The second part of that is one of the chorales, I think, but I couldn't tell you what number.

Mind you, I still have no idea what it means. German is a skill I notably lack ...

Benjamin Britten, huh? (I had no idea so I did have to google ) I actually know him. Didn't he do The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra? I haven't heard of St. Nicholas cantata, of course. I should have known that you might have picked something written for a choir. You win this round, Sir. Lacey.

Not so fast, my good man. How about my challenge? Here's my hint.

Refining of the Termagant

Your job is to find where it came from and to which character it's attached to.

I do not accept your challenge. For I am weak, feeble and stupid.

And you fight like a dairy farmer!

Oh, oh, people of the earth
"Listen to the warning" the Prophet he said
"Beware the storm that gathers here
Listen to the good plan"

I dreamed I saw on a moonlit stair
Spreading his hands on the multitude there
A man who cried for a love gone stale
And ice-cold hearts of charity bare

"From mother's love is the son estranged
Married his own, his precious gain
The earth will shake, in two will break
And death all around shall be your dowry!"

Ah, ah, people of the earth
"Listen to the warning" the Seer he said
"For soon the cold of night will fall
Summoned by your own hand!"

So, anyone recognize that?

How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

I'm not going to take your insolence sitting down!

Edit:If I though that you are actually weak, feeble, and stupid even for a minute, I would gladly leave this thread and let you be the winner. Guess what? that aina't gonna happen 'cause I find you strong, stalwart, and intelligent. Given such a situation, one must surmise that you will not win.
