Googled it up. Apparently it's a joke from some students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

[email protected] Months ago, you have masterfully shaped my kitten into a trapezoid; however, now, the 45-degree angle on the tail side is weakining, making her more of a rhombus than anything. Although, I could reinforce the front side with the angular clamps you sell, I'm afraid she might turn out to be a parallelogram. Any tips?
We would be happy to surgically restore the crisp angles to your cherished pet. In fact, you may have forgotten that we provide a lifetime warranty on the shape of your Bonsai Kitten. Please, pack the Kitten into the shipping container that we will send to you via special express, and we will contact you shortly with a time estimate for the repairs.
The site kinda pissed me off, but that one question raised a smile.

My problem with this "joke" is that it's played too seriously. There are enough idiots in the world without giving them another stupid idea.

I'm just saying, this could've been a wonderful thread where we would all tussle over each other with exponentially ridiculous statements of shock and disbelief.

Maybe next year when someone digs up this old horse

This is pretty old stuff, my sister is a cat freak and keeps me up to date with all the kitty sites...

But why call them Bonsai Kittens? Since when are bonsais put in bottles?

Quote:
A bonsai plant, along with its more widely encountered counterpart the topiary garden, achieves its miniature yet mature form through a long and delicate process of trimming during the formative years of the tree. It is not possible to trim a kitten! However, fortunately the Oriental artists of yore were also expert in the modification of animal forms. Both foot-binding and head-binding were practiced in the Far East, for the purpose of miniaturizing the feet and shaping the head into attractive shapes. This technique is also the principle behind the well-known corset, which is regaining popularity in recent years. By physically constraining the growth of a developing living thing, it can be directed to take the shape of the vessel that constrains it..........
Sick.

I still think it's pretty hilarious. It's at the same time a superb joke that, extreme as it is, still manages to convince people it's real and serious; and a great commentary on how far people will go tampering with life.

RLacey; you are forgiven

That particular case may be fake, but check out what those crazy bastards are doing to watermelons. The inhumanity!

I'm not sure where to tell you to get them, but I've seen them in the supermarkets up north when I was there. They put the small watermelons in a box and let them grow to the dimensions of the box, then remove it to send to market.
