Yeah, I'm celebrating it too, by drinking gin, alone, at home.

I've never head of Little-Christmas before, but I thought that this song might be apt:

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas : Lyrics

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Let your heart be light
From now on,
our troubles will be out of sight

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Make the Yule-tide gay,
From now on,
our troubles will be miles away.

Here we are as in olden days,
Happy golden days of yore.
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more.

Through the years
We all will be together,
If the Fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough.
And have yourself A merry little Christmas now.

That's my favorite Christmas song!! It was written for the movie Meet Me in St. Louis and was performed by Judy Garland in the movie and is by far the best rendition of it.

I prefer traditional choral music at Christmas. But then, I'm sad .

My mother is Irish, and she said something about the Irish celebrating "Little Christmas", also called the Epiphany. I don't think it's the same though, but is relevant as it's called "Little Christmas" because it's the celebration of Christmas, but smaller.

Well, Epiphany is a period [40?] days after Christmas when the wise men supposedly turned up. It's the end of Christmas in the church calendar.

Epiphany is a feast on the 6th of January. I think it does mark the end of the Christmas period though.

I should clarify. Epiphany may well begin on 6th Jan (sounds about right), and the priests I know would be highly embarassed that I couldn't remember that. I originall thought it started 40 days after Christmas, but, thinking about it, that's way too long.

Either way, Epiphany is very much a period rather than a day - at least in the Church calendar. Don't ask me how long a period it is, though, or I'll give you an incorrect fact again .

But it has Judy Garland in it! Something about her singing annoys me, though I can't quite decide exactly what.

God, I love wikipedia, here's a good article on the Epithany. It lists a number of customs from around the world, it's likely to mean different things to different people.

In Finland, "buy nothing today" was yesterday. Weird, ain't it?

Little-Christmas is a time when people usually have massive parties with lots of people involved. Many companies have Little-Christmas parties that all the company's employees attend to. There's usually lots of free alcohol available at these parties and so on and so on...

In that case we have Little-Christmas also in Germany. My company's Christmas party is next Friday. And although we always find a reason to party at work, this one's the highlight of the year because we definitely get loads of free alcohol!

Yes, it's like a Christmas Party. I hate them. Alcohol is not what Christmas is about in my opinion, quite the contrary. If you forget the Christmas -part, then they are more abidable. Though yesterday I attended a sitsit ("a dinner party with lots of singing, a very traditional form of celebration in Nordic student culture") which were, frankly, quite horrible. I've never been so drunk in my life, and that wasn't even the worst of it.

I've never been to a real Little-Christmas party. I doubt I ever will.
I kind of agree with Wormsie.

During the Little-Christmas period, I like to just stay at home and watch some movies & play some games.

I have never heard of "Little Christmas" before. What an interesting custom.

I've always been partial to Ernie and Bert's rendition in Christmas Eve on Sesame Street.

Seriously. I own the DVD. In fact, I'm on the verge of popping it in right now just to see them sing the song.

I've never heard Ernie and Bert sing it! I love Ernie and Bert so I'm sure it's fabulous.
