She does have red eyes (the flash just made them look worse).

[science geek] She's an albino rat so she doesn't have any pigment in her iris. Rats have a lacrimal gland behind their eye (Harderian gland) which produces protoporphyrin (among many other things) and makes the eye look red in albino rats. [/science geek]

I took it this morning while he had nothing to do but nap. He wasn't sure what I was doing.

My rats have black eyes, but they turn slightly red when the room is dark.

Is protoporphyrin similar to the "visual purple" (I can't remember the scientific term for the compound) found in human eyes?

visual purple = Rhodopsin

I don't know much about prophyrins, but I believe they fluoresce

Ahhhh pets, and the warm fuzzy feeling they invoke...

Where to begin? Let's start with the cats, we have six of 'em:

At the time this one was taken we had seven cats, the little red one isn't with us anymore unfortunately, and there's one that's not in this photo.

This one here's just called "Kitty", she's the one missing from the photo above. She prefers to stay outside most of the time because she doesn't get along well with the other cats. Her mother was Siamese and she is a true Siamese in character, cat-lovers know what I'm talking about

This is "Troika" our most beloved cat of all. She's a true blue russian and she's 17 years(!) old and counting.
Spoiler:
Though she has become as senile as a cat can be

This is "Restje" on top of the stone BBQ in the yard. I could've called this picture 'Cat on a BBQ' but I didn't want to give the wrong impression.

This is "Rizzo" being squashed inbetween my little sister and her boyfriend.

The only male in the group is called "Joris". He's incredibly sweet but as slow as they come. This picture shows him out "hunting".

One more of "Joris" to wrap it all up...

And now for some reptiles...

This is one of our "Bearded Dragons" of which we have four, Three females and one male (since males don't get along too great as we all know), ah the life he must lead...

Our Iguanas called "Ot" and "Sien", they're named after two characters out of Dutch children's books from days gone by.
The picture doesn't quite show it but believe me, they're huge!

Last but certainly not least: "Shiva" on her way to get a drink...

Then there's the crickets, the other insects and a lot of mice but since this topic isn't about petfood I'll leave them be...
