Default Rita

This damn thing is coming right through Texas it looks like, and it's a Cat 5 now. My aunt in Galveston has already fled. Dallas should be fine, we'll probably get some heavy wind and rain, but likely nothing serious. I was in Houston when Alicia hit in 1983, and even though I was three years old I remember the destruction of that bitch and she was only a Cat 3.

Man, it would be awful to be one of those people that chose to flee to Houston to escape Katrina. Now they're fleeing again from Rita! Crazy... Oh well, hope everyone gets out ok, and maybe it'll die down before it hits land. Hope it doesn't spawn any tornadoes all over the place like Alicia did. I might end up in the land of Oz...

This is exactly what I was afraid of. I was saying last week that temperatures in the Gulf have gotten so high that it's basically a category 5 factory. Any hurricane that goes in there is going to become a cat. 5 almost instantly. A few days later I turn on the news, and what do I see? Rita making a beeline straight for the Gulf.

The next few weeks are gonna be pretty rough. Just keep your head down down there, Villain.

Bu...bu...but Global Warming doesn't exist!

I think I'm going to call my relatives in Houston to see if they have a place to stay far away from the coast, just in case.

This is NOT looking good, folks. While the Gulf waters are indeed exceedingly warm, we all know there's no such thing as global warming. (yeah, right)

George is bound to make sure his home state will be well cared for in the aftermath of Rita.

The wrath of God has demolished sin city and has followed the escaped evacuees to finish the job. I dont want to sound insensative but it's almost funny.

My folks live in Galveston as have I up until recently.

Needless to say, they have picked up and come to San Antonio this morning. I called my father yesterday and told him to grab his cameras and the tripod and get the **** out of there. Which he did. The city is doomed.

While it is slightly above sea level (moreso than Houston) the sewers are so bad that half the city floods every time a tropical storm passes through town. There are no levees to break, but there is the seawall, a monstrous construction of concrete (from about 15 to 20 ft) that protects a good length of the island. It was built last time a hurricane destroyed the island, which was, give or take, a hundred years ago. It has since sunk a little into the gulf, but it is still solid. And while the city may get covered in 30 ft of water, it will all drain away eventually.

Most people I hold dear have been accounted for elsewhere and I have already gotten over the sad loss of my beloved library which I couldn't lug with me to college.

Yeah, unless Rita makes a weird turn, San Antonio is safe.

San Antonio is too far inland.

Oh, so it won't be the end of the world as we know it, only Armageddon. That makes me feel just fine.

Are you sure that's what he meant to say? 'Cause I never know what he's saying...

Hey, don't be so cynical. At this point, I'm willing to take any good news I can get. A Cat. 4 is at least better than a Cat. 5.

Joe Scarborough on his show on MSNBC said that if you stay in Galveston and a Cat. 5 hurricane hits the island, you will die. It's up to you to decide to stay or leave but if you stay, you will die.

It doesn't get more scary than that. Hope people in the direct path of Rita will finish evacuating soon but that traffic back up is just ridiculous.

Ok, so it missed Galveston. Last news I've heard from CNN is that there is some sort of fire on 19th and 20th streets. I just hope the Sunflower Bakery is ok. That place is orgasmic.

You know, I think God is trying to destroy all places where Mardi Gras is celebrated because tits are sinfull. First the Big Easy, now Galveston...

God made tits. I think they're inherently good. It's how you use them.

It is probably inappropriate in this thread but I'm ROFL!!!ignore this!

I should also say, in all seriousness, I hope people and places fare much better than with Katrina. I hate it when there has to be a colossal cock-up (with Katrina) in order for the proper federal response to happen (it seems they are doing much better with Rita).

God made cocks too. Unfortunately some of them turn out to be pricks.

Anyway, agreed. Best we not joke about this, I got news this afternoon about those 24 senior citizens who burned to death when the bus they rode on attempting to evacuate exploded right on the highway. I'm not feeling like joking about any of it.
