Default Underground Scene of the Day - Monday 19 March 2007

Pleurghburg: The Dark Ages is an Underground classic. But it's not, if you ask me, a great game. Too often, the game feels like a half-digested pastiche of other titles (Police Quest, Tex Murphy, Laura Bow) set against a cardboard backdrop that betrays only the most naive notions of how the real world works. Still, some bits are very good indeed, and though the story is often ludicrous, it seldom fails to entertain.

What I found annoying about this game was the recurrence of situations where, in order to advance the story, you had to go to particular locations without, in my opinion, any particular reason to.

Plus I was slightly disappointed by the ending. I expected something a lot bigger than
Spoiler:
a bunch of guys in funny robes who just wanted to take over the town using guns and explosives. What was with all the ritualistic stuff if you weren't going to have to thwart an otherwordly power?

A thread most controversial, that’s what I want to start
Full of impassioned arguments, of posting from the heart
And for this stimulation all will be thankful to me
On come on everybody it won’t work if you agree
