Default New Trilby Is Out

Ben Croshaws' new game, "Trilby's Notes" has just been let out upon an unsuspecting world and can be downloaded from http://www.fullyramblomatic.com. In it, the player once again steps into the impeccably tailored suit of daring cat burglar turned secret investigator Trilby, last seen in "5 Days A Stranger". This time round, he'll be delving deeper into the mystery surrounding "5 Days", including the origin of the mysterious idol.

It's another great game from Mr. Yahtzee, and now features original music. There are also some other surprises, including a text parser (yes, you did read that right) and an ambitious story structure with narrative flashbacks throughout. I recommend giving it a download, but don't forget to play the first two games as well; personally I think this might be the best of the three.

Spoiler:
BTW, can anyone help with the endgame where you are wounded and can onlt look and talk?

Yahtzee exhibits the best, healthiest attitude and work dynamics of all underground ag makers. :(

His games are really small and cohesive, but they get finished and often and are not painful to play.

Consensus on the AGS board and Yahtzee's own board is that this is his scariest and most disturbing game yet. I've only played a tiny portion of the beginning and it already looks like they are right. Knowing me, I better stop now.

OK, to stop any blood getting shed in the above conversation I should point out to DJ Post-Hardcore-whatever-his-name-is-pigeon-fancier 180 that Squinky is the creator of a couple of well-regarded Underground AGs so it might not be very polite to implicitly slag her off...

/me shrugs. I really haven't played that many independent games. It is just that a damn lot of them go overboard on production values, promise too much and never get made.

I've never played a text parser game before (I came to this AG business late) but I like it so far though. I played 5 days and 7 days and really liked those.

I'm already stuck:

Spoiler:
I'm in the dark apartment and can't figure out how to get light in there. I finally got frustrated and typed ponder to which the response was, It's not going to be that easy.

Edit: Figured it out.

That I can agree with. (I was, after all, around during the SCRAMM days. Weren't you the artist for In Search of the Udderless Cow or something?) However, a lot of people besides Yahtzee do end up finishing decent (and in some cases, extremely good) underground games, and some do so on a pretty regular basis as well. Thus, I wouldn't say that he's alone in that regard. (Unless, of course, that wasn't what you were implying.)

Then again, while short, frequent games are nice, I wouldn't say they're automatically superior to games that take a bit longer to release. As long as things actually do get finished, I'm happy.

You must be mistaking me for that dashing fellow Kingzjester with whom I have absolutely no relation aside from the passing acquaintance on these here forums.

Are the conversations still in the style of the 2 previous games, and also how does that text parser work? (ive never liked text parsers, but im willing to go with one for THIS)

The text parser works really well, actually; the only thing you might want to bear in mind is that the orange thing on the sink (counter was the word he was looking for) is supposed to be an envelope. As for conversations, you just say "talk to x about y" and it will normally work pretty well. And Siobhan is spelt S-I-O-B-H-A-N. Remember that.

D'oh... I guess I sort of am with you on this one...

I was hoping for less scary-oriented, 'cause that's a bit where 7 Days fell on my part... I just hope this doesn't have any of those
Spoiler:
running aways
and all much.

I will of course have to play this.

It's also very interesting how these games just come out of the blue

So the clue was staring at me in the face when I typed in Look at Window and he says something like:

Spoiler:
Not all of the light is coming through.
What could be blocking the light that you change thus bringing more light in.

It took me a while to figure it out.

Actually I don't think you even have to use their names.
I just use "man".
I had to chuckle when I typed in "ask man about woman", what a 'Tarzan' thing to say, is it not?

I'm stuck on the ship

Spoiler:
I've figured out that substituting "signal" for "ask" allows Mbouta to engage in non-verbal communication. The trouble is everything I "signal" is met with a lack of understanding from the crew. What do I need to signal to them?

Cheers for that. Turned out I was using the wrong phrasing (Dan text parser games )

this game is seriously unnerving. Do you think I shouldn't be playing it last thing at night?
