I downloaded it and it looks really great! The problems I'm having are:
1. The red cursor/arrow is not showing up on the screen. If I move the mouse around, it may flicker a bit. 2. When Kaptain Brawe is talking to his ensign and the ensign is talking back, I can't see his dialogue. I am going to burn the demo on a CD and try it on my laptop in case it's a computer issue because obviously no one else has reported any problems. I'll hopefully get those issues sorted and can play the entire demo. I thought boys were supposed to handle power equipment better than that |

Ooooh kay.
I kinda hoped these problems won't arise, as they are REALLY beyond me. Someone on the other forum reported that it crashes after the intro...Anyone had problems like that? Lucien: DAMN THAT BUG. That thing has been annoying me for the last month. I tested and tested it, and thought it was working fine, but it obviously doesn't. Kralek WON'T give you the schematics if you already turned the power on for the translator. Spoiler: Melanie: I REALLY don't know what that could be. What's your hardware, and what DirectX are you using. I encountered the same bug on my, old, and I mean OLD AMD K6 800Mhz, and that is because it doesn't have a DirectX 8 or higher installed. Downloading the newest version fixed the problem. Also, if you have older GFX cards, like NVidia Geforce 2, or even less, it might not work, as the engine uses some 3D/advanced 2D functions like alpha blending, 32 bit PNG files etc. Please, give me more info so I could forward it to Visionaire team. Flux: About the 3D. I couldn't agree more with you. 2D has some much more charm, and "humanity (hope you get what I mean)" that it can blow 3D any time. But, given the amount of artwork, and the fact I am all alone on this (don't forget the music, animations), it would take FOREVER to get it this good. I, by NO means, consider myself a good animator, I am illustrator by proffesion, and Kaptain Brawe is the FIRST character I ever animated. Having a decent 3D artist would make it look GREAT! But, for now, I have to rely on the benefits of technology. There are many things that I dropped, just for the sake of releasing SOMETHING, before going deep in the project, which, in all honesty could be a total failure. I think, that if the gameplay was fun, it should do good. /crosses fingers. And the last but not the least. THANK you everyone, for your kind comments, I hope that with your advice this could turn out as a nice little game, and give me the chance to release more. Thanks. |

Like I said, I totally understand why you would go for 3D. There should be ways, however, to make the characters a bit less static even in 3D. Maybe you've got a friend around who knows a bit about the semiotics of animation?
BUT, I agree with your statement: if the writing and atmosphere is good, much can be forgiven. And in Kaptain Brawe's case, there is very, very little to forgive

I really liked this
the only critisism I had about it was that the talking animations seemed slightly jittery(and it looked like brawe had a black line go through him in one of his frams, but that might jsut be me) Ive got stuck though, Spoiler:

So hopefully me being a pain will help you:
I tried the demo on my laptop (I'll post the specs below) and I got the cursor [(nice star) and everyone's dialogue but I don't get the title or sky and planets on the opening screen (just the stars) and I only get the characters and ship components (the rest is black): My laptop specs: Quote:

Phew....I should gather all this infor and send it out to Visionaire team.
Karmillo/Dale: that the talking animations seemed slightly jittery I've kept the minimum of talking frames for the skae of size. As for that black line, I used to encounter similar bugs with room transitions. It has something to do with OpenGL/D3D rendering. Also, on my computer new DirectX version ALSO fixed that bug. Will look into it, but I doubt it has something to do with the content. Melanie: As for the school computer, the reason is GFX card, TNT2. Thats like OLD. And as for your laptop -- now THAT'S a first. I've never encountered that bug, nor anyone else but you reported it. Now, if the card displays sprites and objects on screen it should be fine. The background you are missing is saved in an JPG file, and that COULD be a reason. I don't know much about gfx architecture and processors, I am just guessing what could be a problem. I'll send this of to a Visionaire team, maybe they know something about it. Mnemonic: Nice to see you here. I WISH, oh how I wish, I was skilled enough in scripting and programming logic, I would use Wintermute in a SECOND! This engine was, however, the only solution for me. Thanks for pointing out the bug...it crashes EVERY time? I really don't know. Doozy: thanks! |

Hey all.
I just uploaded a small config file at: http://brawe.adventuredevelopers.com/config.ini This is for all of you that had graphic problems, glitches and anomalies. Download it and place it next to the KB exe file. Now, when you edit it you will see the following setup: FULLSCREEN = no ------- defines fullscreen mode parameter: yes/no RENDERER = ogl ------- defines rendering library: ogl/d3d INTRO = no ------- leave this as "no" as there is no intro movie. FILE = LANGUAGE = TEMPPATH = try with a different fullscreen and renderer parameters, and maybe we can get to the bottom of this. Sorry for the hassle Here are the system requirements from the Visionaire website. Editor: Operating System Windows 2000/XP Windows 98 is not supported by the Editor. Games/Gameprojector: Operating System Windows 98/ME/2000/XP Processor: ca. 400 Mhz processor speed Main Memory: ca. 200 MB Graphics Adapter - Direct3D Modus: Make sure, current DirectX9-Drivers are installed. Graphics Adapter - OpenGL Modus: OpenGL Drivers, OpenGL supporting graphics Adapter |

Nvidia and the Visionaire engine don't like each other that much, I think. There have been problems with other Visionaire games in combination with nVidia cards as well. (Bad Brain's whispered world demo comes to mind)

Hi Erwin ... long time no "see" .......... How are you?
I've played it through a few times without the slightest hiccup, and my video card is an oldish... NVIDIA GeForce4-MX-440-GPU, 64 MB. I also played it with no problems on my 2nd computer which AFAIK only has a motherboard-chip... Intel 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller, 64 MB |
