Second runner-up would be the innkeeper/bartender in Gabriel Knight 2. I loved the over-the-top dramatic way he told Grace all those old stories and legends.
Interestingly, those two actors played King Andre and Griswold Goodsoup respectively in CMI.

I agree with your choices, and I've got more of my own (mainly LucasArts-themed, as that's most of what I've played).

Chowchilla Charlie from GF: a very funny caricature of Peter Lorre roles, and his mimickry of the actor was hilarious.

Important-looking pirates from MI1: "..and the quest." "The what?" earns them a spot here all on its own.

Mad Marty from MI2: his responses to why Guybrush doesn't have his claim ticket left me in stitches.

Goodsoup and Murray from CMI: one had very understated dry wit, and the other was just freaking hilarious. I still laugh at Griswold's summation of the important things in life: "Breeding, culture, and lots and lots of really old money."

Hancock and Jefferson from DOTT: their bickering was also a hoot.

That jerk Kenny who showed up in many of Al Lowe's games.

Where could inspiration for such a character come from?

I have to agree with the guy from Broken Sword... I remember me and my brother just looking at each other and burst out laughing when he described his black outs.

I liked The Luggage in Discworld too but he's kinda hard to describe. He's not a background character, he's not just item storage and he's not a main character. He's something!

I liked the role players in Simon 2, who could go on talking for hours saying nerdy stuff!

Yeah, he was great. He was the same guy who did King Andre in The Curce of Monkey Island and also did a great job in that. Does anyone know who the voice actor was?

I'd completely forgotten that the KQ6 voice actor was in MI3 too. And I totally didn't know that the guy from GK2 also did a voice in MI3... thanks for that tidbit, ATM!

At any rate, Sam, the Pawn Shop/Andre actor was Dave Fennoy.

Peace & Luv, Liz

Just off the top of my head...

_Boos from Return to Zork..."Want some rye??? Surrre ya do!!!"

-The Balloon Guy in Grim Fandango.

-Kenny, the "other" Balloon Guy from LSL7.

-Paul Giamatti's kooky morgue guy in Ripper.
