Brink: I don't care if you have to cut off my hand, just don't leave me to die here!
Maggie: Don't be so dramatic Brink; nobody is going to cut off your hand.
Boston: Don't make promises you might not be able to keep Maggie.

I actually dig the dig graphics. That is what adventure games were to me in my mind. The Dig, KQ6, Blade Runner, etc

Odd to call this the "Adventure Game Scene of the Day" when it never appeared in the final product! Actually it's a screenshot of an early alpha from Sean Clark's revision of the game.

Here's a sharper version of the picture.

Of course, in the actual game the scene had Maggie in it, and looked like this.

If you look closely at the two, in the early alpha the crack has closed much more tightly on Brink's hand.

But it's the adventure scene that should have been, and thus can still rock .

Nice choice .

Well said.

Though actually this picture wasn't from Brian Moriarty's version; if it had been, Low and Brink would've been standing knee-deep in water.

The original concept was that Brink had to be freed from the crevice quickly, because the tide was rising and would eventually drown him. So there would have been no time for more delicate solutions.

Sean Clark, obviously, simplified the situation (and made it a bit less plausible; honestly, why would severing the hand be the first solution Brink thought of, before they even tried to pull him out?).

I'm learning a lot about this scene today

Brink freaked me out in this game. When he started going nuts, I didn't even like walking on the screen he was on. THOSE ARE MY LIFE CRYSTALS! GOO AWAAAY! NOW! JUST GO! GO NOW!

Like my phobia of DOTT's Dr. Fred because of his voice at the age of five and me screaming in Maniac Mansion when I saw Edna in the kitchen.

Or the Harpies in KQ5. Heck Hermann in Kyrandia 1 was creepy. I get that uneasy freaked out feeling like in KQ6 in the catacombs, hearing the beasts trot sounds, or the chase in Laura bow. Something about adventure games and the thinking\puzzles has always had me creeped out when suddenly you're being chased. Suddenly you have to act instead of think and run away. lol

At that point I want to be in Quake3 or Doom3 and spin around and blast the baddie. Instead I have to run and run and run screen to screen. lol

Ah! I was trying to work out was was wrong with that screen - it resembled The Dig as I remember it, but something just didn't seem quite right. This has indeed turned out to be a most informative 'scene of the day'

Well when I first saw it I couldn't remember for the life of me if Boston ever tried to tug him out of the wall. I thought he did so it went over my head. Of course at that point in the game also is where Maggie does leave you alone for a while as she's off doing her own thing.

Fooled me

And Maggie must have a huge bust given the shadow even though light is streaming in ...

Maybe Low is just flaunting it in front of Robbins .

You know, there's actually a hidden Easter egg sort of like that. Press Ctrl+B and Low will flex his muscles!

Do it around Maggie and she'll make some snarky comments.

And on the topic of scary moments in adventure games...when I was a little kid, I was frightened out of my wits by the ending of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. I didn't write down the "clues to the real Grail" earlier in the game, so when I got to the Grail chamber, I tested the first Grail that Indy described as "the cup of a carpenter." (However, to trick lazy gamers, he describes them ALL that way!)

When the close-up of Indy turning into a rotting corpse appeared (this was on an old computer, so there was actually suspense involved in waiting to see if he survived), I freaked out, quit the game, and even uninstalled it! Silly me.
