i didn't realize until recently that the GK3 box art is also a take-off on christian art of the virgin mary holding jesus after the crucifixion. (gabe is jesus, the vampire is mary...)
-emily edited for spelling -- also to add i didn't actually realize it on my own. someone else pointed it out to me. so much for all those years of Sunday School... Last edited by fov; 09-14-2003 at 09:18 AM. |

Various LucasArts titles (such as MI1 and DOTT), The Last Express, and Gabriel Knight 3 pop in my mind, though I don't have my collection with me so I can't browse through them and pick out my favorites.
As for non-adventure titles, I love the box art for Outlaws. |

I must add the box-art from Stupid Invaders. The one where they are escaping the exploding planet. Simple but effective.
Probably more worth than the game itself, and that says a lot. |

Oooh, I so agree. Blizzard has got it DOWN when it comes to graphic design and art direction. Their products are always bold, colourful, and theatrical. I keep all of my Blizzard boxes just like I kept my old Sierra and LucasArts boxes. Game boxes are an art! Some random boxes I just adore: Maniac Mansion (original box) Zak McKracken Monkey Island 1 & 2 Loom King's Quest IV Codename : ICEMAN (the original foiled print) Conquests of Camelot Warcraft 3 : Collector's Edition Quake 3 tin box Space Quest 3 |

FULL THROTTLE
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (just got a poster of this for my dorm room) MI2 (the little voodoo doll is the touch that makes that cover awesome, IMO) Grim Fandango Loom Diablo, D2, D2:LOD The Last Express Syberia (I'm not really sure why, I just like it)

The one that really sticks out in my mind was the cover from Tex Murphy: Overseer. Not so much because of the art, but because it had a flashing red LED embedding in the cover. Kind of a neat gimmick.

I like the box art for The Longest Journey, Grim Fandango, and Post Mortem but my favourite would be the box for Gabriel Knight III: Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned.

Lucas Arts was the best at the art. Monkey Island 2 : Lechuck's Revenge was so beautiful and it's contents were equally well illustrated.

Discworld Noir had fantastic box art
, along with the US version of Broken Sword - The Shadow of the templars for Playstation: http://e.imagehost.org/0670/brokensword.jpg. As mentioned above, the art for Broken Sword 3 (pal edition) was really nice, and the japan edition was kinda was somewhat nice but weird: http://i.yai.bz/assets/38/406/p1003740638.jpg Last edited by Isak; 12-29-2010 at 08:26 AM. |

+1 for GK3
I'll add Scratches. And I haven't played The Dark Eye but that cover of a shadowy figure standing with a shovel is pretty cool.

The only covers I can think of at the moment that haven't already been mentioned are the Journeyman Project box covers. Some of them are a little cluttered perhaps, but very colourful and eye-catching.
From left to right:The Journeyman Project, Pegasus Prime, Buried in Time, Legacy of Time. Also, I agree that many LucasArts and Sierra covers were beautiful. |

I'm a big fan of a lot of the old LucasArts game covers, as highlighted by this amazing poster thread by Laserschwert. My favourite is probably Sam & Max Hit the Road, which I love the composition and colours on. As I'm a huge sucker for Steve Purcell's art, I also think Telltale's self-published game covers are great.
