What's your favorite box art?
I'm bringing this thread back from the temporary forum where it started.
We're running an article on Sanitarium today, and seeing the box art reminded me again how good it is: http://www.mobygames.com/images/cove...4012527-00.jpg |

That is nice, and the game is excellent, if a little disturbing.
As I said on the temp forum, my favourite box art is Grim Fandango, closely followed by Morrowind.

I personally think the Grim Fandango box art didn't work very well. I'm already not a fan of "character ensemble collages", and I think Grim Fandango even does it badly. It's like they randomly stuck pictures of the characters, and a screenshot of Rubacava on the box in a composition that's ... well ... tolerable. I understand the angle they were going for (old movie poster) but I think it could've been executed a lot better.
I really like the text blurbs though (e.g. an EPIC tale of CRIME and CORRUPTION). |

My favorite art box has to be The Longest Journey. I have it over my monitor so that I remember all the time that it is the very best game ever...*memories*

This is going back aways, but does anyone remember Infocom's "Cutthroats" where you play a deep sea diver? The box features a close-up of a diver underwater. In one hand he holds a broken oxygen tube, and air bubbles are bursting out of it. Through the diver's mask you can see a look of pure, unadulterated terror.
http://infocom.elsewhere.org/gallery...utthroats1.jpg So simple, but so effective. I was around 11 years old and it freaked the hell out of me. I could see the desperation in that poor guy's eyes. -Dave |

Gabriel Knight 3 box is quite good. Gabriel is on (a beautiful female) angel-vampire hands, shirtless and with the medallion on his chest. And the title "Blood of the sacred, blood of the damned" meaning
Spoiler: it made a wonderful box...

The Longest Journey of course And The Last Express. yeah I know the train is boring but when you turn over that flip-page thingy (no idea what's it called), it was like "Wow, nice!" to me. Syberia has a nice boxart too. Simple. But nice.

I think the Runaway box-art is pretty neat. Especially with Gina and those handcuffs
But seriously, it has got a movie-like appearance which I like. (My first post by the way, been reading these boards for years now). |

Good for you ^__^
My favourite boxart would be those of the Warcraft 2 (+ expansion) and Diablo series. Very direct, very personal. Let's see if I can find examples. Okay, I couldn't find any so quickly, but suffice it to say they're nice.

As RemiO said, Monkey Island 1 has a great box! I also love the boxes of Monkey Island 2, Indy FOA, and Sam and Max. Generally, I love the hand-drawn LucasArts boxes.

Yes, Lucasarts has had a talent in making game boxes look great.
My fav is Monkey Island 1. I also find the old Zak McKraken box art to be very good. |
