First in-game shots of Tony Tough 2
GamersHell posted first two in-game screenshots of Tony Tough 2. As you can see, they ditched cartooney look and went for 3D characters on pre-rendered backgrounds. Good or bad? You decide. I kind of like it.
Check the screens here. Update: you can find these two, plus a bunch more screenies in latest issue of Inventory.

Looks great, although I wasn't convinced enough by others to try the first game.

I liked the very colorful cartooney graphics much better.

I really prefer the more colorful cartoon style of the original (probably because it's not done quite as often as the semi-realistic look), but I do think the art direction on Tony Tough 2 is a million times better if you just take the different style for what it is.
Although Evan always declared me mad for saying so, I was extremely bothered by Tony Tough's excessive use of the burn and dodge tool. It's a very ugly way of applying shading if you don't do it right, and it often made Tony Tough look very amateur. The perspectives chosen in Tony Tough were also not that great. You were always looking at things from the side, as if the all the scenes were really just sets on a theater stage. Compare this with other cartoon games like Day of the Tentacle or Sam & Max and you can really tell the difference. I really like Tony Tough 2's art direction though. It looks like they've tried to give the world some character by adding papers, dust, cracks, etc., which makes it look less like the routine shiney pre-rendered deal. This is weird and no one will probably agree with me but it kind of strikes me as a daylight version of City of the Lost Children (the game). |

That town reminds me of Flagstaff, Arizona.
I agree with Marek on the graphics in the previous game, btw. Though there were a handful of interesting backgrounds, most of the outdoor scenery was very bland. --Erwin

I didn't play the first game and can't remember what the screenshots looked like, but I have to say I like the kid with his big glasses.

Heyy AG has always been on top of whats up with Tony T2,
guess I can put away that hairbrush Yep the voice was nasaly annoying. I like the lighter direction as well, the first was a nightmare during some of the pixel hunts you always seem to have with inventory driven gameplay. |

Agree with Marek and Erwin on first Tony Tough graphic style.
Must say i really like the new screenies. It looks like they are going for a bit different mood this time- a bit nostalgic. If that's the case, i'll love it. Last edited by Igor; 12-21-2004 at 08:35 AM. |

Yeah, Syberia has become the new benchmark for depressingly colorless and drab but artistic graphics.
PS: I actually liked his voice. |

Even if this would become the best looking game on the planet I'd still not buy it. My mind has suffered serious injuries when playing the very disappointing, not witty, uberboring and ultra unlogical first part. I hate this guy. I hate his dog and everything that breaths around him.

Funny how in the italian version the only good voice was Tony Tough's while the others were fairly annoying and too much over the top to appeal anyone but very young kids.

ACK!

Tony Tough was originally an Italian game?
And Spain never got it? But we are like brothers! Oh well, at least it was tranlated to English, could be worst, many cool adventure games never make it out of their native country... I haven't played Tony Tough so I don't know how his voice sounds, but it can't be worst than Chewy from Chewy Esc from F5.... Nothing can be worst than that...
