I've been wracking my brain trying to remember everything I could about this game but no keywords I type in seem to come up with anything, and none of the adventure game lists seem have it.

So here's what I remember from the demo I played.

I remember it was a side view 2d point and click game, so I think it was mid to late 90's in origin. I remember you wake up on an exam table on a spaceship, you can tell its a spaceship because you can see earth out of a viewport... I remember at some point you encounter an grey alien having a shootout with someone with lasers in a corridor and he throws you something... a ring I think, that allows you to unlock doors in the ship.

thats pretty much all I remember.

Doesn't take place at the beginning, but rather in the middle if my memory
Serves me.

I think I read something like that in an old The Ward review. Never played it though.
