An all star game
I'd love to see an adventure game which has the main stars from various classic games all together in one adventure. Imagine manny calavera, kate walker, guybrush threepwood, george stobbart, brian basco, gabriel knight,
sam and max, zoe castillo, etc, where you can choose to play as any of these characters. What do you think? |

I think it would be difficult to find someone who would like to spend the time creating such game. First of all one had to know and like all those games. Then the visual styles wouldn't mix together well. And fans of each character would start complaining about how are they treated...

Yeah, obviously there could only be one graphic style, but the main thing is having all these characters in it. Much like an all star hollywood movie.

If Sonny Bonds shoots Brian Basco, I'm on it!
Or if April Ryan beats him in the head with her staff... Or if Kate Walker makes him fall in an iced pit...

I think the main problem would be actually acquiring the rights to all the different characters. Presumably they are all copyrighted by somebody so you'd have to get all the copyright holders to agree (and even if you could they'd probably each want control over how their character was used) Hmmm. I sense a theme developing here.

Assuming it would be quite challenging and time consuming to get the rights for all the characters and agreements on how the characters are used, do you think a game like this would sell very well, enough to make the effort worthwhile for the developer/s?

I think it could only gather interest as a freewere fan fiction like production.

How about Hoyle's Book of Games? It features various Sierra characters from different series, such as King Graham, Roger Wilco and Larry Laffer.

I agree that it would be a nightmare trying to secure rights, but a satire would probably be able to sidestep the problems by renaming the characters such as "Guycomb Twopwood" or somesuch. This has been done a few times a la "Pyst" and the X Files spoof. It could actually be a hillarious
game. |

the idea is fascinating, but the story would be impossible to build up properly... there's so many graphical styles to start with

It has the potential to be a fun satire. Especially when all those characters that are in fact miles away from eachother meet up. Or maybe that each character is totally screwing up the original plot of the other characters. (I can't help but imagine Gabriel Knight hitting on Elaine and succeeding at the first attempt )
