How can I know which adventure game is my favourite?
How can I know which adventure game is my favourite? Every adventure game I ever played is good. Some are very good and some are quite good, but good. Well, some adventures are easier and some are harder. I like those harder adventures because when I play them I, usually, play them with one or two of my friends. I really don't know how do I choose my favourite game, but everyone has his favourite game, movie, etc.
Well, I have two favourite adventures: Zak McKracken & Alien Mindbenders and The Dig... Zak is my first adventure game, and The Dig... Well, all of you know that game... And your favourite games? |

If you're having a hard time deciding your favourite adventure game, then simply, you dont have one. A favourite is something that will come naturally.
My favourite is and will always be Escape from Monkey Island (The third in the series) And following close is Grim Fandango. Two of the first I ever played.

It's almost like trying to decide which of your children is your favourite.
...maybe.

The best thing to do is throw all of the games in a pile, and randomly select two. Of the two games that you selected, determine which one was inferior and sell it on eBay. Select two other games and repeat. When you're left with only one game, that one is your favorite.

I think nostalgia plays a big factor for many people in deciding on a favorite adventure game. Like for me, the first couple of LucasArts adventures I played way back in the day have always been my favorite.

I think it's easiest to determine a favorite after you've played many of the popular ones. My favorite was always The Longest Journey until I played Grim Fandango this year. Grim Fandango then became number one. Also I just finished playing the first two Broken Sword games for the first time, so they went up there in the favorites too. These are my top five now
1. Grim Fandango 2. The Longest Journey 3. Broken Sword 4. Dreamfall 5. Sanitarium I still haven't played other popular ones like Gabriel Knight 1 and 2, Full Throttle or The Dig.

You don't think about your favourite game; you know what's your favourite game. It's a game that's more than a game. Usually, a favourite game is one of the first good ones you've played.
My personal favourites are Grim Fandango and Discworld Noir. |

I definitely relate to the idea of generally enjoying a medium (whether it be movies, games or whatever) and yet not really having a favorite.
I never had a favorite director until I watched Brad Anderson's movies. And I never had a favorite game until I played The Last Express. I still don't have a favorite musical artist or author. But I tend to think that if you have a interest in a medium or genre you'll eventually find something that seems almost like it was designed with you mind--it just may take awhile to find it. |

Your favorite game is also one that you go back and play again and again (or at least you think you should go back and play it again). Other games you are happy to just have finished once.
For me the hands-down winner is Day of the Tentacle, but I have always been a fan of Back to the Future type stories and the humour really struck a chord with me. |

*Gasp* I forgot discworld noir!
Right.. Top 5 Me thinks. 1. Curse of monkey island (Thanks DEMON ) 2. Grim Fandango 3. Discworld Noir 4. Day of the tentacle... or Full Throttle 5. The longest journey. As for Dreamfall? Er.. The first part I loved (The sci-fi atmosphere and stuff) I just got bored at the part where Spoiler: So I think I uninstalled it after months of its icon sitting uselessly on my desktop.

ZORK will always be my favorite. I played it when it was first released on the Apple II, and have always loved it.
A close second would be LOOM. If we included RPG's, Planescape: Torment would be front-runner! |
