I cant remember that well as I havent played it in a long time but I think in Runaway [1] you kill someone, [althought I think maybe it was the thugs that did it], at one stage you fire a machine gun but I dont think you hit anyone.

There's the Mine Road section in Full Throttle, which I personally hated.

X-files the game, a shoot out scene in an old warehouse. Didn't you kill Dr John in GK1?

In feeble files you get people killed.

Like the Trucker guy or the Girl in the phone booth.

And of course Dreamweb, in which your goal is to kill certain people.

I remember distinctly that in one of the King's Quest games
Spoiler:
you had to kill a Bull to get further along in the game.
It was very annoying, I thought --- at least to me. In King's Quest games, the main character (you) would also die mysteriusly sometimes.... (very annoying, really).

I seem to remember that in BS1+BS2 you also needed to kill someone or make someone unconscious??

Are you talking about killing people without including the endgame? There are quite a few games that end with killing bad guys.

I remember that in Secret Files: Tunguska there's a sequence where you do something that could get someone killed -
Spoiler:
You remove a road sign and cause a truck driver to lose control. The truck driver lives, but to me it felt like the protagonist wouldn't have cared if he died. And risking a person's life was all done for a lemon.

In Nightlong -
Spoiler:
The hero causes a guard to fall down a pipe leading into a pond full of pirahnas. He also gives someone the means to kill another guard.

In Nibiru-
Spoiler:
The hero drops something very heavy on a guy's head. He also attaches a rat to a stick of dynamite to blow up a crack in a door.

In Tungusta, the protagonist
Spoiler:
released a flood of water into the Antarctica station, killing the antagonists.

Not necessarily killing people, but the threat of constantly being killed in the original Sierra titles, really gets my blood pumping, and forces me to keep my finger so very close to that save button.

Going back to these games now, playing Kings Quest 1 and the original Space Quest ... really brings a smile to my face. While I adored Lucasarts, and their stories ... I loved the Sierra games for that feeling of being under constant threat. It always kept me alert.

That said, I remember some particularly annoying scenes in some of the titles, that had me pulling my hair out. Several times I grew aggravated in KQ3 and the Mall Scene in Space Quest 4 made me want to punch the screen at times.

However, I feel, if done right, it can be a fantastic element to a game, that really sustains your attention and keeps you involved.

The original Gabriel Knight title, is one of the few games I've played that has given me nightmares. The sound effects, the sudden situations you had to take control of ... the voices ... the music and cut scenes.

For me, this game worked on so many levels and smacks to me of a showcase title for how death in a game, can really make the experience all the more thrilling and chilling ...

you get to kill tons of people as indiana jones in the fate of atlantis. You punch them out, drop things on them, and even use crazy powers to do horrible things to them.

um.. everyone is already dead in grim fandango..lol, but you still get to go pick up a body, hehe.

i have no mouth and I must scream - death, rape, killing, etc etc

the list goes on.

I have no problems with killing in adventure games, as long as it doesn't mean Game Over.

You could kill yourself in a very silly way in Neverhood.

Spoiler:
Jumping into a hole that's clearly labled "you will die"

Spoiler:
When you kill Orat by throwing water at him and shoot the Saliens (spelling?)

I somehow managed to say something that actually happened without spoiler tags even though I thought I was joking, hmm whoops

Theres death in pretty much every lucasarts adventure it seems, but death doesnt have to be so graphic

Lots of games gathered here but better to mention nuances of the why and how
you have to kill, you playing adv.for challenging your mind then just (simply!)
intentionally have to kill someone on your way for progress!?
Killer heroes creating rather inconsistency in genre elements.Eg:april stabs aguard for sneak in tower,or Watson kills cultists with shotgun)When this situation happens nothing but bastardizes what genre carries.(Among the titles above Tunguska and Nightlong countable for closer examples)

The best killing in an adventure game is done in The Dreamweb!

In The Dreamweb you:

Spoiler:

- Blow a rockstar's brains out while he's doing the nasty
- Slaughter his body guard with an axe
- Crush a tv celeb with a big box on live tv
- Blow up a successful business women. You get to finish her off while she
tries to drag her legless carcass to safety
- Get to lure a madman onto traintracks and see him get run over by the
passing train.
- Get wasted by tons of policemen!

Now, try to top that

The Dreamweb is a dark and disturbing adventure game with a cool setting and a pretty good adult story.

Play it if you can find it!
