Neat, huh?

Heh, somebody beat me to it...

I planned on making a voice driven interactive fiction game some years ago, but thought the technology wasn't ready. I just thought it would be a nice experience to play the game with your eyes closed. You'd hear the narator and the sounds of your environment (bird song, waves, etc.) and you speak your actions back.

It'll be interesting to see how this zork game progresses.

It is on the PC, but it's written in Perl (a scripting language) so you need a Perl interpreter and possibly some other packages.

Cool! I wonder why did he choose Zork, though. While it's a true classic and has a brand recognition factor going for it, the parser is less clever, and the gameplay less forgiving, than in many later games. I think its problems may be even more frustrating in a voice-controlled game.

And I'm curious how this project stands legally speaking, what with Zork's freeware-but-not-really status.

EDIT: Wait a minute, is he working on a talkie version of Zork, or a universal voice-to-text-to-voice converter for Infocom games?
