I'd say the owl from Ocarina of Time, although I haven't played Simon.

While I wait for the obligatory "Ocarina of Time isn't an adventure game!" comments, I'll have to go with the wise owl from Simon. Not because he's immensely helpful, but because Cedric is perhaps the most annoying sidekick in any adventure game ever...

Bah, Cedric deserves to win whatever poll he appears in!

Other.
That creepy mechanical owl in Blade Runner.
Helps by adding to the atmosphere.

I found the wise owl kind of annoying to be honest, don't think he helped me that much...

Hey, Cedric takes a bullet for you! If that's not helpful, I don't know what is.

(That, and I have no idea who the other two owls in the poll are, and I can't think of any other AG owls, either.)

Awww, come on. Cedric was quite nice. And he was so cute wearing his little vest and his monocle and all that. Had he been wearing a mortarboard he'd be the living image of that one wise owl from that one children series I can't remember the name of (maybe I imagined it? I can't remember. Any help? I believe the owl was also wearing a kind of stole, though no vest.), but I know I had a plush toy of him.

Definitely the wise owl from Simon the Sorcerer - an in-character hint system! Very useful.
