Default what is the best soundtrack ever in adventure gaming?

HI everyone, i`m new member here (first message!!!), and i`m wondering what is the best soundtrack, for your opinion, in adventure games?

for me, it`s GABRIEL KNIGHT 1 ( I don`t have enough words in my poor english vocabulary to describe the quality of it, but believe me..it`s good!)

Gabriel Knight yes, 1 and 2 both have amazing music. However I also love the music in Conquest of the Longbow. And Quest for Glory 3. And Return to Zork.......

Wait...this is a hard decision. I guess my overall vote goes with Conquest of the Longbow. Amazing soundtrack.

Dune (both the in-game version and the music CD). With Gabriel Knight and Conquests of the Longbow not far behind. I really liked The Last Express too.

What, what the hell am I thinking? I forgot to mention Indigo Prophecy. How can you not like the music tracks? Very good at setting the mood. The Theory of a Deadman tracks aren't bad either. After watching the credits I could not get that Santa Monica song out of my head....I just HAD to get it.

Definitely the Scratches soundtrack! Totally cinematic and it makes you feel like you're playing an interactive movie instead of a game. Composer's website suggests the soundtrack CD should be available soon. I can't wait!!

As I've said before, I find the contrast between the music in the main part of TLJ and the more toned down guitar melodies in the Prologue and Epilouge, quite interesting. Now I just hope that the soundtrack of Dreamfall will have some of that personality. Also the music tracks from the Jukebox in the Festival Fringe was nice.

If you consider Outcast and adventure game, I highly recommend the orchestral score from that game. I've been playing it on my stereo many times.

The jazzy soundtrack of Discworld Noir is quite atmospheric and chilling.

It seems to me that there are actually a lot of good music produced for video games. One of my fondest memories, is actually the score of Gabriel Knight 3, which is also a terrific game. I find the melancholy, short piano melodies of the game quite inpiring, but most importantly it adds a lot to the game. But of course, that can be said of the soundtrack of all the games above. Syberia's soundtrack is similar to GK's soundtrack in the way that it is used in the game. There is not very much of it, but that makes what's actually there all the more precise and effective. It doesn't interrupt the player. Other good sountracks: Course of Monkey Island, Grim Fandango, The Neverhood etc

Without a shadow of a doubt - Broken Sword.

Dune is a good one too, I used to have that music in my head for days!

Since I'm doing my thesis on this subject, I'm wondering if the folks here would consider computer music a valid alternative for more "serious" music. Do you think computer music can be as valuable a piece of art as for example classical music?

Hmm. This one's tricky. My immediate response would be Grim Fandango, but there are so many good soundtracks ...

What a strange question. Define what you consider "computer music". Kraftwerk? The Legend of Zelda? There's nothing fundamentally different about music played with a synth - e.g. the "Loom" soundtrack which uses midi versions of classical music. It's still Beethoven whether it's on a guitar, a computer or a symphony orchestra.

To return to the thread; Full Throttle and Grim Fandango are tied for me. That song on the radio in Full Throttle - so quirky. Or the rockin' main theme. Sweet.

I'd suggest that music in video games, and synthesised music in general, are no less "serious" than film soundtracks or pop tunes.

Yeah, Throttle and Grim were great, and Scratches has one of the most profecionaly made soundwork ever in an adventure game.
And I'd also like to mention Syberia, it's symphonic score fit's it's mood perfectly.

Gabriel Knight 3 is my favourite soundtrack. Others worth mentioning are the previous two Gabriel Knight, the Myst games, The Dig, The 7th Guest/The 11th Hour, JP3: Legacy Of Time.

Game with the best individual songs: Quest for Glory 4. KQ6 would be my second choice. I consider this music a valid alternative to songs I usually listen to.

Game with the best atmospheric background music: Gabriel Knight 3. While I wouldn't listen to a lot of these songs outside of the the game, I do believe the soundtrack consists of excellent music for in a game.

If I go by the one I listen to and enjoy the most outside of the game, I'll probably say Curse of Monkey Island. But there's possibly another game soundtrack that I like more, I'm just too lazy to think of what it could be at the moment.

Of course, as Telltale releases more Bone tracks, I'm starting to like those more and more, so who knows?
