Default My "quest" so far... Can I make it?

In case you didn't know I got this stupid idea to beat all my unbeaten adventure games, and so far, well....

First things first, we are a bunch of whiners!

All this talk about the "golden era" and that games were better back then is hogwash!

I've been playing lots of games from the good ol' days and they are just as "bad" as today...

I've been beating about two adventures a week but since I've played all the good ones already playing all these mediocre ones are to getting me...

I'm already very frustated and pissed at adventure games right now, I barely feel like playing them anymore...

I'm beginning to think I should give up and just play the good ones...

That is, IF I have any good ones left...

Here is the list of unfinished games:

-Schzim II
-The Westerner
-Amerzone
-Traitor's Gate 2
-Amenophis: The Resurrection (Cameron Files 2)
-Riven
-Uru
-Legend of the Prophet and the Assasin
-Pilgrim
-Secret of the Alamut
-Atlantis III
-The Final Cut
-Necronomicon
-Sherlock Holmes: Mystery of the Mummy
-Evany
-Lighthouse
-Morpheus
-Traitor's Gate
-Dagger of Amon Ra
-Return to Zork
-Nancy Drew 4
-Nancy Drew 5
-Nancy Drew 6
-Nancy Drew 7
-Nancy Drew 8
-Nancy Drew 9
-Oddysey: Search for Ulises
-Louvre
-Paris 1313
-Evidence
-Faust: 7 Mysteries of the Soul
-Aztecs
-Schzim
-Atlantis II
-Shivers
-Dracula
-Dracula 2
-Legacy Dark Shadows (New "entry")

Anything I should really be playing?

Or maybe I should just forgetting playing these old things and move on to other games, like Ankh or Still Life?

Frankly, I'm so frustating from not being able to beat Police Quest 3 and 4 that I think I playing non-adventure games for while...

I think you have some good ones in there but it really depends on what kind of game you consider to be great or do you like all types of adventures?

Without knowing what you prefer, I'd consider these on your to-play list as ones that I would start with:

Shivers - Effective atmosphere, music, puzzles.. some tedium in moving around and the whole one-inventory item thing can get annoying.

Riven - I'd venture you aren't a huge Myst fan if you never played Riven. Tough game but beautiful.

Morpheus - Kinda grainy graphics (if you're picky) but solid, not-too-tough puzzles and an interesting storyline.

Faust - I liked this game a lot for it's non-linear story telling. Decent puzzles and graphics. Unique choice of music.

Traitor's Gate - I have to play this as well but I hear it's good... but I've been told its sequel is garbage.

Lighthouse - Myst-clone that's a big challenge and may be too hard to be fun for some.

Return to Zork - Want some rye? Course ya do! Quirky.

Hope that helps some

What games have you been playing that have frustrated you?

I bet Sierra.

"They"=the bad ones.

Yes, hard to argue against that. Remember, that was the time (early 90s)when every major publisher signed lots of LA/Sierra wannabes, which naturally led to a lot of pap standing on the shelves.

Faust - although i don't like first person games this is one that i loved i'm not saying that it's for everybody but it's definitely worth checkin out

Westerner - if you like Lucas Arts adventures then this is one to try but don't expect it to be as good as Monkey Island series

Amerzone - this is one game that is waiting on my shelf for some time and i still haven't tried it but it's Benoit Sokal and Microids should be good

Compared to what we have nowadays Police Quest is a masterpiece. Least they don't force you to bake cookies.....or spend hours trying to wind up trains.......

Yes, instead you get to spend hours filling in forms and handling paperwork .

It takes you an hour to type "write ticket" and "fill out form"? I'm talking actual hours in the games I mentioned. If Syberia was supposed to be engaging then I missed the boat.....because after wandering that university and train station I wanted to quit. The game gets better, but sheesh.....talk about slow paced.

You're talking to the wrong person about Syberia .

Any game where you can screw up badly enough to force you to restart is far from a masterpiece in my book...

Spoiler:
The moment I saw the hero getting married I knew they'd do something horrible to his wife in the next game, which they did....

They game was so dramatic I nearly broke up in hives!

Anyway, I think I might play one or two more of the unbeaten ones, before I decide to forget them for a while and play new ones...

I still haven't gotten my hands on Still Life, I'm waiting for Ankh and I just got Legacy Dark Shadows in the mail this week...

Amerzone
Dagger of Amon Ra
Traitors Gate 1
Shivers
Lighthouse

Would be the top five on my list.

The same thing is said about the "Golden Age of Television". It's easy to forget that for every "Your Show of Shows" or "Playhouse 90" people were also fed "Friday Night Wrestling". The tendency is always to remember the good and (try to) forget about the dreck.

Riven, Shivers, and Morpheus would be my top 3 out of that list.
