The Dig? In which case he would have his hands stuck into a crack in the rocks.

Wow! First Adventure Game Scene of the Day that I (think I) recognize. This really made my day! Yaaay
It must be from the Dig -like Ninth wrote- where Ludger Brink gets stuck in a crack and they have to carve his hand off. |

I think that it looks like giant mounds of play-dough, or mashed peas perhaps.

I think I said "good god, that was hardcore" out loud when I saw that scene. While alone in the room. >_>
I love that game. |

I like the line you get if you try and get Low to check out the crack...
"Yeah, right. Like I'm going to stick my hand in some crack in the rock on an alien planet." [paraphrased] |

Yeah I remember after all the years of playing sierra games and other lucasarts, The Dig had a more adult feel to me. When you brake out the bone and go to town, I was in awe. I was like "wow... that was badass!" Why? Because for once I didn't have to take slime, mix it with extract of chicken grease, use a syringe, and extricate the arm from the crack. Noo, that would be too adventure gamish. Solution they give you? SAW the sucker off!

The Dig is awesome and underrated. Takes the best parts of character interaction based adventures and Myst-likes and adds a whole bunch of cool atmosphere, plus a concise Movie-like story (the good kind).

LucasArts' worst (or rather, least good) adventure game. Great music, some cool visuals, but too sterile for me. Exploring an alien world may start off interesting, but it ceases to be when you've been stuck for three hours and you've got nobody to talk to except one crew member who's insane and another who just tells you to go away. Some cool light puzzles though - just don't mention that bone creature! Where's ATMachine? He's late. |

What's wrong with only having insane people to talk to. You do just that every day here, especially when talking to me. -
