ScummVM dead!
Or so they would have you believe. The hoax (they are NOT dead) on the front page reveals that they're adding Flight of the Amazon Queen, as well as Broken Sword 2 which is nearly completable. Good news eh
http://www.scummvm.com/ (oh and they hoaxed everyone to see how many people are reading their news page...)

In a Spanish forum they talked about it, but they didn't know it was a hoax until a long time later...

Hmmm, Broken Sword 2 works fine on Windows 2000 and XP here...
But Flight of the Amazon Queen support sounds fantastic! Even moreso since I recently bought it on Ebay! --Erwin

I hope I'll be able to play these games on my Pocket PC, like with most LucasArts adventures. It rocks! And FOtAQ is one of my favorite games. --Erwin

So does anyone know what the game that they're planning on releasing as freeware with the next version? Beneath a Steel Sky was a good game, and I'm glad I got to play it, hope the next game is just as good.

And about BS2 in windows: Can you run it in double resolution with graphics enhancing filters in the original? I.e. there are benefits for windows too.

And yes, I can run BS2 with all it's bells and whistles. It has 4 levels of detail and they all work fine without any tweaking. --Erwin

BS2 is two cd:s with about 800 MB together I think.
In ScummVM you can have higher resolution than in the original, even if it isn't that important. The important thing is that ScummVM saves the games for the future, even if it is possible to play BS2 on XP, how will the support be on the version after that and the one after that? As long as people work on ScummVM there you will be able to play those great old games on the platform of your choice. That is the strong point of ScummVM.

Pff... I'd be happy if I could just get anything more advanced than Scumm V1 to run on a Palm Tungsten T2. Memory limitations suck.

Also, scummvm should allow a patch to be made for the Pyramid Puzzle, after all these years.

Actually, I bet a cleverly written emulator could scale it down. The Palm's resolution (nowadays) is 320x320, so it's a perfect 50% reduction in width. The processor itself (144MHz ARM) is probably up to it, the problem is that Palm chose to include only 512kb of heap memory, so it can't cope with stuff like that. |
