Default So, I'm on the last act of Gabriel Knight 2...

... and I find out that the sixth CD is broken. I can't even create an image from it or anything. Furthermore, GK2 is a very expensive game to get from ebay, and also difficult to get on bittorrent/emule.

NOOOOOOO!

Not really, IMO, as it's not illegal. As far as I know, when you purchase products, at the same time you purchase the right to use it, so copying someone else's disk is allowed.

I think...

when I saw how expensive GK2 was on eBay, I mailed VU to ask them why they aren't budget re-releasing their old titles (GK2 DVD... yes please!) but let's be honest, they probably won't even reply. Or I'll get a reply a bit like this

Dear Sir,
Thank you for your recent enquiry. VU have no plans to release this title at the present. So screw you.

Some twit in PR.

Asking someone to copy a whole game would be a problem. Asking someone to copy one disk that would be useless by itself is sort of different, especially when the publisher is not providing tech support for the game themselves.

Unless the same person systematically claimed that each disk was broken and duped six different people into helping out.

Perhaps we should check any other adventure game forums?

If you find ebay a little pricey, then you might want to check out trademe , which is essentially the New Zealand equivalent of ebay. I picked up GK2 for $15NZ ($7.50 US, or 5 British Pounds). Of course, you'd have to pay international shipping costs, but they probably won't amount to much when converting foreign currency.

Thanks for everyone's advice. I suppose this could have been a clever way into duping people into giving me a free copy of GK2. I guess you'll just have to trust that I'm being honest .

Anyhow, if fov's solution doesn't work I've found an image of CD6 on emule, with 7 sources. It'll download... eventually.

Nah, it involves a rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle.

Sounds vaguely familiar. Although in my case, it's the fifth (my favourite chapter in the game, and soooooo my own fault!). Meow.

It's difficult to tell. It's not particularly badly scratched, so it might be the backing.

Did you roll over the CD with your desk chair or something?

Hm. That might actually have been fun. Maybe. I've moved too often in the last three or so years.

Err.

Confused? You shouldn't be. A broken GK2 disc is what you get if you cram CDs into cardboard boxes without any wrapping.. (That and blood, sweat and tears. Loads of them)

No cat, no disc, no fun! But hey, at least I made it to the end of the fourth chapter. And even worse, seems like I have lost my sixth disc, too! Ah, one day I'm going to download these from somehwere. Need the German ones, though.

Did anybody notice that the guy at the Wagner museum played the role of Pascow in the Pet Semetary movie?

(I swear to the mighty powers of script writers, in my aferlife's afterlife I'm gonna be a Wagner geek! Now where was I? Ah, yes. BRAAAAAaaaainnnnns... )

Funny!

I didnt notice that GK2 was that expensive. I have seen them go for under 10$. That's not what I call expensive for a game like GK2...
