Default Would overhead graphics put you off?

Hi guys,

I`d just like to say hi before I begin posting, I`m sure I`ll get to know you all a lot better over time

OK so off I go....

I am just wondering if any of you guys would be put off an adventure game which used overhead graphics - ala Dreamweb back in the day.

I loved Dreamweb on my A1200 AGA and haven`t really seen anythin similar since, which is a shame as the look is so stylized (this is personal though, some will hate it, some will love it)

So, would you be put off an adventure game simply by seeing the overhead graphics, or would you give it time and judge it from its merits (plot, characterisation, puzzles) ro would you not even bother in this "3D effects overload" world we live in.

Thanks

If the game is good then I personally have no problems with overhead graphics .

Another Code used them beautifully, so it wouldn't put me off at all.

I remember another adventure that used overhead graphics...although I cant remember the name

I do know there was a song made out of the quote "Its a skull" ripped from the game.

hahaha, I still have that song somewhere around here

The "It`s a skull" remix of the Valhalla sound effects was on an Amiga Power cover disk back in the day - it was classic.

On another note, what is Another Code?

Edit: Just seen screenshots of it on here, didnt know it was a DS game, looks good!

Welcome to the forum, rIKmAN.

Looks like you've found the screenshots, but here's our Another Code review, if you haven't seen it yet.

Graphics where you're looking down at the character's head as s/he runs around. Like a bird's eye view.

If I'm not mistaken, I think it's 'top-down' perspective, as in Grand Theft Auto 2 and Another Code.

I would play most any game that sucks me in and immerses me and is a good game, no matter what the graphics are like. Thing is, the game should really exploit its particular graphics style as best and most strategic it can, use it tell the story and challenge the player as no other kind of graphic style can.

Oh. (Sure, sounds pretty self-explanatory now...)

No, that wouldn't put me off in an adventure game.
I'd probably feel like playing a Pokémon-adventure at the beginning, but that's not a bad thing.

If the overhead camera means you're looking over their shoulder, then I do like this approach.

I would be put off of topdown graphics, unless on a portable platform. GTA1&2(and the countless car chase games made way before it), pokemon, zelda, I played on my gb, gbc, and gba. Same for isometric graphics were great for the PC in the 90s, but again, it works on portable.

They work on portable because they're restrictive/limited, just like the platform, when I'm playing on my PC or console I want something more, otherwise I'd rather be playing on my gba.

Baldur's Gate, Fallout, Veil Of Darkness.. Great games that show you the game world using an overhead (isometric) view. I think these questions are rather weird. Make the game you want to make and believe in. And stop listening to some nerds on the internet. That's dangerous. It is.

Isometric and overhead aren't the same thing.

Personally, I wouldn't be put off by it. It would be rather unique for what it is that's for sure.

Dreamweb is one of my all time favorite games. A little short though and a too linear, but the story and atmosphere made up for it.

I probably wouldn't be put off by it, but I wouldn't be attracted either. Unless there's shooting involved, I'd rather have some other perspective.

A) I say, great, go ahead, very unusual. But many ag fascists (No action! No 3D! Point and Click! Tinkering puzzles!) will be put off by the RPG connotations.

B) Guy who posted just above me; is that a Donnie Darko reference I see
