Full Throttle is an excellent starter game. And it's not on your list, but if you're willing to look past really dated graphics Loom is also a good choice for first adventure game.

Sorry for not clarfying but this isn't actually my FIRST adventure. When I said first, I meant first game I get with my PC.
Not that that matters though, right? Anyway, Grim Fandago is looking to be a lead contender. |

Try getting your hands on the Lucas Adventure collection first, which should include Sam&Max: Hit the Road, Full Throttle and Day of the Tentacle.
If that's not possible, Grim Fandango will definitely be my choice!

All the Tex Murphy games are great, though being 3D they age a lot quicker than the other games on your list (what I mean is that Sam & Max doesn't really look much more primitive today than it did, say, five years ago, as the evolution in 2D graphics isn't as extreme as with 3D graphics). So I think you should hurry up and play them before you go on to the 2D games.

All the games on your list are good ones. (Well, GK and Syberia are not my personal favorites, but that's just me.)
So I'd go for the cheapest games. Ripley will set you back only a few dollars. Sam&Max + DOTT on one CD. Blade Runner is cheap too. PS: Grim isn't expensive either. Last edited by Fien; 09-25-2005 at 03:00 AM. |

Start with Sam and Max. It's stupidly funny and the puzzles are fun to do. It was my first and it lured me in quickly. Still haven't gotten out.

I think, instead of giving you an uninformative answer by just saying a name, I'll rather give my opinion on a handful of the games on your list.
Do yourself a favor and don't buy Syberia. Day of the Tentacle is simply awesome, zany and funny. Probably one of the best puzzles ever seen in adventure games. Loads better than Grim Fandango. Full Throttle is short but sweet. The Neverhood, doesn't make any sense, incredibly frustrating but "oh, my god" awesome to look at. If you can find it, I'd recommend it purely for aesthetical value. Claymation, baby. Blade Runner. Dead boring. Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers was pretty awesome. It looks a bit dated now, but still worth the price. Awesome story. It's funny that nobody mentions anymore that Grim Fandango has one of the worst control schemes ever. You can most definately look past that, and enjoy the gripping story and mostly great puzzles. But don't let anyone fool you into thinking Grim Fandango's the perfect adventure game.

Grim Fandango and Blade Runner are great. Both use simplistic control schemes, so your "newness" to the genre will not make a difference.

Day of the Tentacle
Day of the Tentacle is one of the best computer game experiences I´ve ever had. Adventure or not. It is simply an amazing experience. May be a bit tough if it´s you´re a newbi adventure gamer, but otherwise. I envy anyone who has not played this game yet.

Hmm, do yourself a favour by ignoring what bigjko and rlacey said about Syberia. It's great. Easily one of the ten best point and click adventures ever released and much better than, for instance, TLJ.

ACK!

You know, some people saying a first game that is too good will spoil the genre for you...
I'm not one of them! Go for Grim Fandango or Day of the Tentacle if you can!
